FAFSA Processed...and then

Hey guys.
My FAFSA was processed 1/19 for my first batch of colleges, and then 1/20 for the last two colleges. (I did it online.)

How long does it take for the school to receive my SAR or whatever they receive? I checked my status for Boston College, and they didn't receive my FAFSA report yet. They did, however, get my CSS Profile, which was done on 1/20.

Is it normal for FAFSA to take a while to be received?

By the way, I can't check my other schools because they don't have a status checking site. Thanks.

bump.........

I called the financial aid office at some of the schools my son was accepted to. I wanted to make sure that they received the fafsa. Some schools just have not downloaded it yet, and won't do so unil March. Other schools have downloaded it, and have recieved it. I think that you might want to call their financial aid office and ask if they have downloaded them for any of their students. There might not be a problem.

Many schools will not bother downloading any FAFSA's until their priority deadlines.

Also, one school had the date in which they received the fafsa information. They will send out financial packages in the order in which they received the fafsa information.

Thanks!

So I shouldn't be worried? But, I should call in just to be safe..

No, I would absolutely call them. You do not need to panic, but you do need to see this through. Definitely call the school financial aid office, and if they do not have it yet, ask them what you need to do. I would keep checking back. This is too important to ignore. Don't be shy about this.

My FAFSA was processed a little less than a week ago, and I received the link to the web SAR - it's the same "SAR" that other people have been referring to, right?

The thing is, I have one item marked with a blue circle inscribed with an 'h.' Apparently, this has been marked for inconsistency. Unfortunately, it's my birthday. And I know my birthday. And armed with this knowledge, I am positive that the data is correct :) Is it fine if I leave it all alone?

zoogies, sorry I just don't know what that means, so I cannot help you.

Zoogies - look at the part of your SAR where you indicated whether your were a "dependent" vs. "independent" student. Maybe you mistakenly checked "independent" even though you are under age 24? That could be where the "inconsistency" comes in.

Calmom - I don't see that part on my SAR. Strange, it asks if I have any dependents, but it doesn't say whether I am a dependent or not - which it should, somewhere. I'll look into it again.

If you view the SAR online, under "Student Information" there is a line that says: " Student Born Before January 1, 1983?" - then it will say "YES" or "NO". Check to make sure that corresponds with your actual birthdate.

I really don't know if this could be the problem or not - I'm just speculating. I don't even know if the system will allow anyone to enter inconsistent information. Its just that if your birthdate is entered correctly -- and I agree with you that you probably do know when you were born -- then I don't have a clue as to why there would be a problem other than this.

Another possibility is that for some reason the Social Security Administration has the wrong date of birth for you, so the date given by SS doesn't correspond with your real birthdate -- which of course would be a bigger hassle to correct -- so I hope that's not it. I don't know whether FAFSA confirms records with SS as part of the processing.

If you can't figure it out, I think you should call FAFSA on Monday. They actually do answer the phone when you call.
