Please help out Medill Hopeful!

I'm hoping to attend Medill next year. Would Medill admits please post stats so I can see if I'm in the ballpark? Thanks you guys and congrats!

SAT I: 1500, SAT II writing 700, math Ic, 700, US hist. 710, Chinese: 800, GPA. 4.2 weighted. 3.98 uw. rank 4/508.. yearbook EIC,

SATI: 1330 SAT2s: 720, 680, 670 ECs: editor in chief of newspaper, pres of national honor society rank: N/A

i'm sure you'll get in; i have pretty low stats compared to other medill admits, and i'm certain it was because i'm well-rounded. good luck!

Thanks jenny! I'm a tad lower than you, but maybe with some work...congrats on your acceptance!

-did you guys have any other ECs/talents?
-are poor math grades going to hurt while applying? [like 80s]

i had a B+ in AP statistics...but thats about it, we dont go by percentages.... dont really have any special talents.. i wasnt expecting to get in, heh...caseu i didnt have anything specail. no writing awards or anything, never wrote for any writing competition, no intership at newspapers or anything either. Just yearbook staff. our yearbook not even close to being an award winning or notable.

wow. so what were your SATs n other stats? did you have legacy?

sorry. forget it. didnt see it up there

hehe.. its okay, but no legacy either. i think my essays were pretty good? or so my teahcers told me.. =P

yeah, math has not been my strongest suit at all...and i got into Medill ... but the beautiful thing about NU overall is that there are 3 credits of math OR science required for graduation, sooooo YEAH i'll be taking those science courses next year! ;]

yuck.. i suck at math too... i didnt go into calc or anything .. just Stats and precal... (easy teacehr for precal..89.2.. gave me an A-)... iono if i should take science or math for hte requirement.. i suck at both ...but i think i might do math.. science is hard....=/

I got into Medill early decision. I went to public school, except for freshman year. SATs: 1500 (I only took them once), SAT II's (I should have waited longer to take them, my scores would have been better): Math IIC- 690, Literature- 750, Writing- 740. I only had a 3.7 weighted GPA (don't screw up freshman year! at least the upward trend was amazing). I'm getting the IB Diploma (HL math, english, history; SL chem, anthro, francais). I'm a ME on my high-school newspaper. I had an AMAZING reccommendation, a good interview and pretty good essays. EC's include newspaper, lacrosse, swimming, lifeguarding, NHS, weekly volunteering at a hospital. Basically I'm SO lucky to have gotten in with a GPA like that.

thanks..i appreciate the replies

My stats were low, low, low to be admitted into Medill. I got a 29 ACT, didn't take SAT I and didn't submit SAT IIs. I don't even remember what I got on my SAT IIs they were so bad. My ECs were pretty strong, though--4 years on newspaper, 3 years (the most we could do) on Yearbook and I acted as Editor-In-Chief my senior year. I participated in student government for 3 years, and had a radio show at my school for one year.

My essays were the strongest element to my application, but I think what also helped me was my course selection throughout my four years in highschool. I took as much English-based classes as I could and had some sort of journalism class throughout all four years. Medill is looking for promising journalists, and I feel like if you're weak in a specific area but are strong everywhere else then you definitely still have more than a fighting chance of getting in.

I'm still not quite sure how I got in, though. Oh well.
