I was accepted into the Honors Program at Villanova and Colgate University. If I hadn't gotten into Honors at Villanova, I would have decided to go to Colgate, but now I'm just really unsure of what I am going to do. Villanova is only 45 minutes away from my house and Colgate is around 4 hours. I was really comfortable when I visited Colgate, but I would know more people if I went to Villanova. I'm going to major in English and plan to go to law school.

Any advice?

Is Villanova giving you anything special? Any money? My husband is a Colgate Alum and volunteers for the Alumni office. We know both area. If costs are the same, liberal arts is your interest go for Colgate

I’m not familiar with the perks/requirements of the honors program at Villanova, but when my D was accepted into the honors program at multiple universities, I was surprised at how different each school handled that program. Be sure you fully understand villanova’s honors program before you make a decision.

Also, is it important that you know people at the school? My kids wanted to attend a school where they wouldn’t know anyone, so they could make a whole new set of friends. Something to think about.

Also, consider the religious factor at Villanova. Again, that may or may not be an issue for you.

If you were set on attending Colgate before Villanova accepted you into honors, then figure out what it is about honors that appeals to you.

I’d go with Colgate. In general, I think its better to attend the better school than the honors program at a less selective school.

If you are indeed ready to go to college, well, this answer should be straightforward.

These institutions are very different and on that basis your choice, based on your own objectives, should be clear.

If it were MY choice, or if my son or daughter was in your shoes, I would be packing my bags for Hamilton, NY. I hate to introduce rankings and prestige but I am happy to discuss class sizes and the LAC mission. No contest in any case.

Good luck!
