Please help with my chances! Senior trying to figure out where to apply!

As the title mentioned, I'm about to be a senior and I've been using this summer to really crack down on the colleges that I want to attend. This choice will be the most important up until this point in my life. I just want to know from an unbiased 3rd party what my chances at these schools would be. I know what my reach schools are already but if you could help show me which schools are a match and which are a safety because I want to make sure I have enough safeties on the list. Also any other schools that you think would be a good match would be a great help. I want to major in political science as I'm very interested in politics and government.

Class List (just listing classes that are honors/AP aside from regular courses that I take)

Freshman Year
-3 honors courses
Sophomore Year
-1 AP - scored a 4
-3 honors courses
Junior Year

Schools considering applying to

UC Berkeley

UC San Diego

UC Davis

UC Irvine

American University

George Washington University

University of Rochester

Syracuse University

Fordham University

University of Washington

Boston University

University of Maryland - College Park

Loyola Marymount

Right now I believe I have 3.5 unweighted GPA and am #10 in my class. It's not the best but I am going to work really hard and hopefully raise that during my senior year. My combined SAT score was an 1810 and that too is not the best but I plan on retaking it in October and will hopefully be able to raise it.

Any advice you would be able to give will be much appreciated. I want to try and cut down this list since 13 schools is financially a lot to apply to. Thank you for your help! Also any other schools that you think would be good please let me know!

Also I'm from Guam and fall under the Asian/Pacific Islander bracket so I'm hoping that maybe the minority thing and coming from such a small place will help.

I can chance you for the UC’s, but I can’t help you with any of the other schools because I didn’t apply / do research on them.

One thing I suggest doing is going to College ******* website, which I found really helpful and slightly reassuring during my college application period. They not only have a place where people can chance you (it’s a lot easier and quicker to get results there), they also have a graph that will show you the chances of getting into the college you want. Just search the name of the school, click the About the School tab to reveal drop down menu, select Admissions. Make sure the graph ONLY shows Accepted students (uncheck all the other stuff on the right side of the graph).

If your chances are a little low, don’t be discouraged. Privates and liberal arts schools are more likely to weigh in your extra curricular activities, so grades aren’t everything there. If you have a 30% chance or higher, I would apply since you have pretty good ec’s. Just make sure to write stellar essays!

Unfortunately, the UC’s basically just take you by grade; they don’t care about ec’s or your essays. In my own personal experience, you will probably get into UCI and UCD, maybe UCSD, and probably not Berkeley or UCLA. UCLA literally took the top 2% of my school (all of whom I know have a 4.4+ GPA and probably no less than an unweighted GPA of 3.9); I got in with a weighted 4.6 and unweighted 3.9. Surprisingly, Berkeley accepted way more students than UCLA. However, I know of some people who got in with lower GPA’s, but they’re from different schools, so they may look at your school rank too.

Good luck!

“College ******* website” what website is that?

I know the UC universities have a strong preference for California students and are much harder to get into for out of state students so I think that UC Berkely and UCLA are pretty much out of the picture and UCSD is a reach. The rest of the UCs you have a shot but certainly not guaranteed. The rest of the ones on your list seem more inline with your GPA. American university, Syracuse University, Fordham University and Loyola Marymount are in the range of low match to safety, although all except Loyola have an acceptance under 50% so I am not sure any of them are true safeties.

College p r o w l e r (no spaces). For some reason, the board admins wanted it censored considered the competition (I guess?) between the two websites.

ccjunior1 thank you!

And thank you to everyone who commented on this. Really hard to get feedback on this site sometimes
