Please help!

I am considering Wash U for college. I want to go in pre med or major in bio. I have heard that it is super competitive and almost impossible to get a good gpa. I will need at least a 3.5 gpa to get into med school. Is Wash U that hard in pre med or did I hear wrong? Also, how does it compare to top ivy league schools like Princeton, Harvard, and Yale?

You already posted this.

Wash U’s pre-med program is difficult. It causes many people to reconsider their plans for the future and decide not to pursue a career in medicine. On the other hand, it is certainly possible to succeed through hard work and determination. While it IS difficult to get a good GPA, that does not mean the students are very competitive with each other and it is in fact not particularly the case. Also, Wash U has one of the top-ranking medical programs in the country.

Thank you! Do u go there?

Yes. I’m not pre-med but many of my friends are.

Do they think it is really hard? It is it more laid back?

It’s certainly not laid back by any means. As I already said, you can do well but the work is difficult and requires a lot of hard work.

Okay what ACT do u need to get in?

That’s not how it works. Admissions is a holistic process so your ACT score won’t make or break your chances of getting in. But the middle 50% at Wash U is 32-34.

I know the ACT isn’t everything but a high test score is important. What did you get?

I submitted my SAT score, which was a 2200 (800M/680R/720W). According to Wikipedia, that equates to a 34 on the ACT, which is about 75th percentile as I mentioned above. But really, don’t worry so much about your test scores as long as they’re reasonably competitive for Wash U. The rest of your application is equally important.
