Please help

Hi everyone,

I really need help deciding which college to go to: University of the Pacific (UOP) or UC Davis. I need to consider: money issues, location of these two colleges (esp. UOP in Stockton, CA) and academic reputation. Do I have a better chance at getting into UOP grad program for Pharmacy entering from UOP undergrad or Davis undergrad? Is a UOP Pharm degree not respectable? Also, I'm a bit uncomfortable with Stockton's high crime rate? Are there any UOP currrent students out there who can comment on this?

Thanks in advance!

i heard UOP undergrad to UOP grad for pharm is easier because they “save” you a spot if you pass the interview and writing sample. is there even pharmacy @ Davis? i’m not too sure about Davis, but if you do go there it will be a longer way until graduation.

There are no problems on the UOP campus with crime rate. Just don’t go walking off-campus at night in sketchy areas.

The areas that are sketchy should be obvious. I’m sure it’ll be okay, if you just stay on campus.

The UOP Pharm degree is respectable, but I’m not sure if you’ll like UOP. Have you visited yet?

is it true that it’s easier to get into UOP grad for pharm if you go to UOP undergrad for biochemistry (not through the Pre-Pharmacy program) just because…?

Yeah, I’m currently a freshman at Pacific, and I sometimes get emails about people getting jumped or robbed, but come on, that’s all common sense. Those people should know better than to go to sketchy areas at 2 or 3 in the morning. Anyways, I’m in the pre-pharmacy program as a 3+3, and it is indeed the best and most relaxed program out of the three (i.e. 2+3 and 3+3). As a pre-pharm, you would already have a spot into pharm school. The only obligation and responsibility you have is to maintain your grades during undergrad and do well on your writing prompt, and interview.

There’s opportunity costs between going to each school. Davis is substantially cheaper, but if you get scholarships and grants for Pacific, then the different is pretty minimal.

To answer the the question about getting into pharm school with your biochemistry major, I believe it would just be the same as if you were an undergrad elsewhere.

Btw, just curious, what pre-pharm program are you in?

difference*

I um actually did not know about the pre-pharm program offerred at UOP. I applied for the biochem major in UOP and chem major in Davis. I had to make up my mind which school to go to by the deadline may 1st so I chose Davis. This is my biggest regret. It actually costs less for me to go to UOP. But since I didn’t get into the pre-pharm program, I might as well go to Davis. Hopefully I made the right decision in the long run when It comes to getting into pharm school. Thanks for your reply :)

Biggest regret not finding out more bout the UOP pre-pharm programs*

UC-Davis isn’t a bad choice, I would’ve done the same thing. Don’t regret the situation and just go out and enjoy freshman year!

Aw why thank you :D
