<p>I never got involved with the debates here until some of you started talking crap about those who are serving. Go ahead and talk about the war in general and other issues as the military in whole. All I ask is to continue with your discussions without bringing the actual men and women that voluntarily signed up into this.<br>

<p>I can't imagine a stupider person than one who would insult the troops and expect to be taken seriously ever again.</p>
<p>To be fair, I haven't read every single thread on the confidential cafe. But, of what I have read, I haven't seen ANY posts insulting the troops. I don't think there is anything wrong with discussing those that are serving. They are putting their lives on the line for, well there are differing opinions about exactly what for. But, for those of us who know people serving or who have served, I do think it is significant what their views are on the war and our government because they are the ones in the crux of it. Obviously, opinions differ between the troops just like anyone one else. But, do discuss their unique perspectives are pertinent. Absoulutely no one should be disrespectful towards the troops, but I don't think anyone is. I don't understand why it would offend you to merely discuss the troops and their many perspectives.</p>

There is no possible way you could have not seen it in the past week.</p>
<p>Talking about servicemen and servicewomen in any light is alright if a person has the facts to back it up. </p>
<p>In my opinion, they are all brave for what they do, but I think it wrong to just outright criticize saying anything about them. I don't think any one of you will disagree that particular soldiers, like those at the Abu Ghraib prison deserve no honour. But at the same time, it is wrong to think all soldiers are like that.</p>
<p>Also just talking about what Guate said, I used to think perhaps Rudy Gulliani would have tried to run for president in 2008 with all his popularity. But after that comment, I doubt he can ever run for any political position. The opposition would smear him with that comment. </p>
<p>But what I don't understand is what Rudy Gulliani did that was so special that it garnered him with so much popularity. I mean, honestly, what did he do that no other mayor wouldnt have been able to do? Did he run into the burning WTC buildings or what?</p>
<p>usna-reject: First of all, the movie thread is one I haven't visited. I tend to be interested in the threads that are discussing politics. If you and vancat say there have been criticisms of troops somewhere on this board, I believe you. But, believe me when I say, I haven't seen any.</p>

<p>Not just ANY mayor can do what he did after 9/11. He held New York City, the largest city in the United States, together in a time of crisis; it takes a real leader and a man of character to be able to do that. Maybe next time thousands of people get killed in your hometown we can elect you mayor since it's such an easy job.</p>

<p>usna-reject: I saw nothing in the first or third thread you linked that was someone being disrepspectful towards troops. In terms of the medals issue, I would agree that it is ridiculous to even think there is anything wrong with giving medals to honor soldiers. But, I don't think the poster, no matter how idiotic the thread subject, was saying it in a mean spirited way.
The third thread you linked I have been following, and I've seen no disrespectful comments towards troops. There are people who admitted that wouldn't want to fight or their kids to fight, but they didn't put down those that do.
I wasn't willing to go through the whole second thread you linked because it was too long. But I have checked out that thread here and there and saw nothing directly against troops.
If any of these threads do have specifically hurtful words against troops, please give me the post # and I will be happy to check it out and concede.
At this point you have not proven to me that anyone on this sight of generally intelligent and respectful, though very diverse in opinions, has been disrespectful in their discussion of troops. Instead, I think that you have very strong opinions and are trying to twist what those that disagree with you say into being mean and hurtful when it is not.</p>

Sorry about my somewhat mean comment towards you in my last post. I just get sick of the accusations everybody throws at one another. But, in that case you were right.</p>
<p>it's ignorant to talk s<strong>t about the troops. They are committed to defending thier country and if some idiot president stars a war, they are the ones who HAVE to do it for him, whether they agree or not. i've lived on military bases all my life and my mom was sent to qatar last year. most troops don't agree with the war, but understand that it's their job. the troops don't say "let's go and fight in iraq," the president sends them (indirectly). they sign up to defend their country when the commander in chief wants them to. and in this case, the C.I.Chief is a d</strong>*head, and thinks they should "defend" the us in Iraq.</p>
<p>i'm pretty sure if north korea attacked us and the troops fought back, nobody would be talking s**t. the troops don't have a choice to say "i don't agree with the war so...i'm out". they just have to do it.</p>
<p>They're not all heroes. A lot of them are the people who used to beat you up in high school. But they're definitely brave.</p>
