I am interested in attending univeristy in CA weather and location mostly

please some good schools that you guys are applying/attending. thanks, when i did the seach i found thousands and didnt know how to find GOOD ones.

Some basic info might narrow it down, like budget, major, sat, GPA, EC’s, etc. also, are you from Califonia and interested in publics? Also, there is a California Colleges forum.

April brings a number of sad stories here of students who are unable to afford attending any of the four year colleges that they have been accepted to. Unless your safety is an open admission community college or a low-selectivity guaranteed-affordable school with a post-April deadline to apply, you need to include in your application list a safety school that you know you will be admitted with enough financial aid and scholarships and that you will like to attend.

thanks, shrkink, is there a recent profile data thing, b/c my sat/gpa are around davis’s 2010 ranges. Nvrmind, i found it, google is bomb
Davis, i def will attend.

and thanks ucb, i will apply to a almost guarentee accep and with good fin aid pack.
last resort use the loan card…

Are you from out of state? If so that chance of admission is much lower, they only take a small amount from OOS, and the tuition cost is much higher.

Most schools have decent science and math programs. So apply to a few public schools and a few private schools so you can compare when you get accepted. In terms of weather and location, what kind of location are you seeking? Safe neighborhood or are you looking for big city environment? There’s a difference. As an example, the location of UCB and UCLA would be different than UCI and UCD for public schools, just as the location of USC would be different than Chapman for private schools. When DS was applying for college, the location was as important as the academic programs. Something to think about later after you get accepted.

ucbalumus said that getting accepted to school then not affording sucks, so apply to schools that are easy to get in and hope for a nice package or have been know to give fin aid packs. as a last resort if all colelges that aceept give sucki fin aid then ill go to the nicest and pull some loans and HOPEFULLY get a nice job to pay that loan off…

i beleive those should qualify me for many of ca’s not very competitve schools.

Honestly, i am more looking for the right college and less about how to pay for it. that probably means i have to work jobs in all of my spare time but hey, i get to go to college for 4 years, thats more than any of my family can say never went to college.

the qualified cosigner loan part might not work out but there are 12 weeks of summer, at a 8-10 dollar job 40 hrs a week thats 3840 dollars to 4800 dollars over summer. i wont get to hang out with friends but i can get a college diploma.
Unless some ivy accepts me AND gives me a nice juicy fin aid im probably gonna settle for some low key ones. fingers crossed though, a kid can dream…

If you are an out of state student don’t bother applying to public schools in Cali. Budget cuts are hitting the UCs and Cal States hard and its difficult to get classes. Don’t put yourself through that if you can avoid it.

Here are some “good” california schools:
Cal Poly SLO
UCLA
Berkeley
UCSB
UC Davis
UC Irvine
UCSD
Stanford
Any of the Pomona Colleges (they are small liberal arts schools)
Caltech

Put in the research for each of these schools to find out which is a good fit for you, because for example, the culture and student life at UCSB is VERY VERY different from that at Caltech or UCSD.
