I attended the IB program as a freshman and I am thinking about leaving to go to a regular High School. At this High School I would be taking all honors classes as well as AP classes. My question is, what do colleges prefer? Do they prefer an IB student or a student from a regular high school that has taken AP classes and honors classes, is involved in sports, community services and school clubs?

If your IB, that REALLY rocks. Seriously though, if your miserable at your school now, please switch. Don’t be one of those kids that only does it because it “looks good”

but do you know which one is preferred by colleges ?

I think the question is…why does it matter which is preferred? Either is a good option if you make the most out of it.

AP + honors + sports + volunteer work + clubs > IB + nothing else

so i could get into a really good college but doing all those things you said in high school ?

If you are good at daily work (GPA), but don’t like std. tests. stay with IB, because IB tests are after college admission.

If you aren’t happy at the IB school - move. Colleges realize not everyone can be in IB schools - I have one IB school I could attend, and it’s 25 minutes away. Not reasonable. Go to school where you’ll be happy, and get involved and you will be fine. Don’t stress about college - CC makes admissions a huge deal with EC’s and stuff. Don’t get me wrong, they’re important, but you’ll be fine as long as you’re doing whatever activities you want, and going to the school you want to go to. Colleges will much prefer your AP classes, with sports and activities and all that.

askq - AP tests are after college admissions too.

Lol… in my school no one knows what IB is… I only know it because of CC.

I still can’t spell it.

You’re fine sticking with AP’s.
