High school senior here who dreams about NYU 24/7. Like, I have this vision of getting accepted in the middle of class and bursting into tears. It’s my #1 choice. I’m applying ED, here are some stats:
Gender: Female
Ethnicity: White
Location: NYC
Financial Aid: Don’t need any
GPA: 3.56 (will go up by the time I submit my app due to trimester grades, all As and A+. I had one C last year which ruined it.)
Class Rank: 10%
IB Candidate, taking IB HL Language and Lit, IB HL History, IB HL Biology, IB SL Math Studies, IB SL Film, IB Ab Initio Spanish II and IB SL Art.
SAT scores were embarrassingly low when I took it so I refuse to post them - however, I drilled and drilled for the ACT which is a MUCH better test for me. I get my scores this week but on practice tests I was receiving 30/31. Estimated score breakdown - 35E, 35R, 32S, 27M.
ECs include Student Ambassador, Model UN, Student Government, volunteer work with Reading Partners, and (possibly) a part time job.
Here’s the thing. I’m a really good writer - like, an above average writer. I say this with confidence for a few reasons; mainly, because my writing has been praised my entire life by people I really respect (educators, people in the publishing industry), but also because English has always been my niche. I suck at math, but English is my passion and it shines through in my work, I believe.
I’m applying to NYU’s Liberal Studies program and putting the Gallatin School as my second option. I know my scores aren’t perfect, and that my GPA is on the low end of the A, but do my difficult course load, good extracurriculars, and very strong essay/supplements play a part at all? I LOVE NYU. I believe that my sheer desire to attend is really apparent in my application. I’ve never wanted anything so bad in my life.
