Chances for NYU ED I and other similar schools!

Hi there,
I was looking for someone to chance me for the schools I’m applying/applied to. This isn’t a complete list, just the ones I’m most interested in knowing my chances. Thank you!

Schools:
NYU (ED I) - dream school, applying to CAS and really want to attend. I love it so much
BU and their honors college - (RD)
Northeastern (EA)
GWU (RD)
Syracuse (RD)
Drexel (RD)
Northwestern (RD) - I know this is a top school practically Ivy level but I think that my essays could give me a leg up.

I attend a gifted school. Most of the students end up at top schools or choose a lesser school with a full ride

Stats:
ACT: 30 Composite, 35 English, 26 Math, 30 Reading, 27 Science
GPA: 3.971/4 Weighted - I know this is strange but this is what my guidance counselor gave me
Rank: 11% (38/344 I think)

Strong uphill trend: freshmen year GPA 3.2, sophomore GPA 3.9, junior GPA 4.5

Extracurriculars and work:
Student Gov treasurer and founder of a mentoring program - 10
Model UN member and was then nominated by our advisers to be head delegate and president - 11, 12
Treasurer and member of my schools event planning club - 11, 12
Interact club (service club) member and attended a local conference for it - 11, 12
Camp counselor - Summer 2016 and was asked to return for 2017
Runway modeling experience - 2016 and expected 2017
Modeled for opening credit sequence of a show that will potentially air on Amazon prime - 2016
Frisbee club member - 12

Essays:
My why NYU essay was incredible - I’m a good writer and I think it’s the best thing I’ve written in a long time
Personal statement is really good too - did the essay on overcoming failure and how that applies to my illness and freshmen year grades
I’ve had my guidance counselor and peers read over and give suggestions for all my essays so far and they all love them

Recs:
Guidance rec should be amazing because we’re really close
Teacher rec 1 should be good he’s known for writing great recs
Teacher rec 2 should be good

Extenuating circumstances:
Being sick and how that’s affected my high school grades, my junior year is the only year that really represents me academically (straight A’s in AP courses)
Also PLEASE NOTE: I realize that some of my stats (GPA) are lower than they should be for some of these schools, but this is because I was very sick freshmen year and it’s fully outlined in my essays with an explanation. Shouldn’t be a problem.

Additional info:
I should’ve been in NHS 11th grade but something happened because of my freshmen year that made me not allowed to apply. I’m practically guaranteed a spot this year though.

Courseload:
College prep courses freshmen and sophomore year
Junior year: AP Gov, AP LANG, APES, honors pre calc, honors c++ and Java, french 3
Senior year: AP Lit, AP Psych, AP Stats, honors physics, and french 4

Thank you! I appreciate any replies, but am not looking for information on financials. I understand that a lot of these schools (NYU specifically) are extremely expensive, but respectively that’s between my family and I rather than CC.

Thanks again!

bump ?? please guys

You have a solid chance everywhere except Northwestern, which is definitely a reach school that you should still apply to. The stuff you wrote about NHS doesn’t matter.

What is your unweighted GPA cumulatively? Do you have any Cs? With a 30 ACT you’re middle of the pack for all these schools except Northwestern, whose chances of accepting you you accurately estimate.

My school doesn’t calculate unweighted GPA and I don’t really have an estimate. I have one C+ from freshmen year, but as I said that was due to extenuating circumstances because of health problems. Since then I’ve had all straight A’s with drastically increasing course rigor. The only reason my GPA is so low is because of the complications with my health freshmen year, but I clearly highlighted it in my applications so that the schools know that that is anything but normal for me. Do you think this will hurt my chances? From my understanding the schools just won’t take into account my freshmen year when reviewing my application, which would increase my GPA tremendously. @sunshine232

This link will calculate your UW GPA - it’s generally self-calculated: http://www.ohe.state.mn.us/sPages/gpa.cfm

I don’t know how your schools deal with extenuating circumstances so I can’t really predict more than that. 30 ACT is really hard for NU

Northwestern might be rough, but everywhere else you’ve got a great shot. Consider taking subject tests to show off, and really try to get that ACT up if you get deferred.

Thank you both! I chose not to take subject tests for personal reasons, and I’ve already submitted 3 apps anyways. Probably too late at this point. But I appreciate the advice!

Bump

please ?

You are stressing, relax  you will get into college! Where did you apply EA?

Haha sorry thank you… I applied ED to NYU, and EA to Drexel and Northeastern. I’ll also be applying EA to Hofstra but that isn’t due for a bit yet

Well, if you get into NYU, no need to submit any apps for RD!! You have a good shot there, as you do for Northeastern and Drexel. Are one of those two your 2nd choice?

Northeastern and BU are my second choices so yes… I have to submit BU by December 1st to be considered for their honors college though. I’ll have 5 out of 9 apps submitted by the time I hear back from NYU
