Please post LOA if you get one

usnavymom: thanks for the advice! I never know how much to push, as my son is so laid back! I will be sure he asks these questions directly. I am sure WP considers him "blue chip" as they are flying him up...but Navy is not as ardent. We did discuss this w/ the BGO tonight during the interview, and he is going to make some calls to determine how much they want him.

mom3boys-My daughter has been in weekly contact with the swim coach since summer (mostly e-mail to stay in compliance with NCAA rules). She went on a recruiting trip (all paid for by Navy) early October. Her application package was finished two weeks ago and she sent off nom packages to MOC and 2 senators. She has a presidential nom due to fact my husband was career Navy. She received call last week from coach stating Admission Board found her triple Q'd and she has been accepted. He told her to act surprised when MOC calls her. We don't know if this will happen soon or if she still goes before Senators and MOC's Boards in December and competes for their nomination. One word of advice-make sure your son is registered with NCAA Clearing House. USNA and other colleges usually do not want to talk about recruiting etc without athlete being registered-keeps coaches out of trouble.

is that really what the Superintendents nominations are for? for LOA recipients who did not recieve a nomination from their MOC?

^^^^^^^^^^Nope. Given the credentials of one who is capable of getting an LOA, a MOC nomination will be a given. Should in some rare case, a candidate who, in their best effort, still fails to get a nomination, the CGO will assist them in obtaining one.

Wow! What a great Navy Day!! Navy beat Notre Dame and when we got home from watching the game with fellow alumnae, parents etc my daughter found a fat envelope on the porch. She opened it and it contained a nice blue portfolio with an appointment letter in it-she is so excited and can't wait to tell her coach, counselors etc who have been so helpful. The first thing she requested of us was, "Can I stop taking the SAT now!" She took SAT #4 this morning and was signed up for the Dec one.

Yeah sdnavymom1607!!! it certainly is a great Navy day for your family and for us all!!!!!

Hey Peskemom- We met at Alumni Parents reception at Alumni House our kids Plebe summer. my son Scott is in 15th company and my husband is class of 1977. I told you we used to live in Poway and Scott and Katherine swam for Blue Fins. Now we are in Dallas but my son gave me this screen name because he still considers San Diego home! Scott actually thinks it would be cool to have his sister at the academy but I think he was hoping she would go to a civilian college so he could party!

Received word from a coach that I got my LOA and it would be mailed this week so now i'm just waiting for the official letter to come. Once I receive it should I send a copy to my congressman and senators offices?

They will be cc'ed copies straight from the Academy, but it is a good idea to call to make sure they received it.

I received an LOA Tuesday. I'm waiting on a nomination for now. Should I contact my sources for an interview or just hang back and wait for them? I haven't heard anything and I'm trying to find the right balance between bugging them and keeping up on things. Thanks.

^^^^^
Congratulations!!!

I would call and ask when/if they will be conducting interviews.

arhead70 I second everthing GreatAmerican just posted! :-)

My son just recieved his LOA for the Naval Academy 2012. He did not recieve nomination from MOC. What would you recommend he do at this point.

My opinion: if he didn't receive nom from any MOC (senator or congressman) I would contact them all and let them know he has an LOA. If someone from one of the slates decides not to persue the academy, perhaps your son could be nominated at that point. How frustrating for you and your son! = (

This same thing happened to our son last year. You can contact your reg director and ask for any help, in our case we did that when attending cvw in Jan. also you have the vice pres nom if you have submitted the application. The naval academy submits the name of the candidates to the vice pres office but it is not a sure thing. Also you will go in high rank for the national pool if I'm not mistaken. Congrats on the LOA. maybe Great American or usna69 may be able to fill you in more they seem to be more in tune with the process more than me. BTW our son was able to obtain a nomination with the help of usna and is in the class of 2011. Best to you.

got my LOA weds and 2 nominations the next day, pretty pumped. have been waitin for this day since i was in elementary school. does anyone know how long it takes to get an official appointment after getting what i got.

^^^

It should come in a couple weeks, but it might take a little longer being Christmas/New Years time of year and all. BTW Congrats!

Exactly, or someone on one of the three slates may prove not 3Qed. Also, they may go down a tier. Find another applicable MOC with the same situation, move one of the Senator’s nominations into this slot, and then put your son in the now-vacant Senator’s slot. They will work to make it happen.

The Beav may be a tad optimistic. It depends on the method in which your two slates of nominations were submitted. If at least one of them is submitted with a primary candidate, and you are that candidate, the Beav may be correct. Or if one of them is a Presidential, he may be right. However, the vast majority of MOCs submit a competitive list to the Academy. In this case, they cannot select until ALL the candidates on that particular slate have completed their packages and the CGO can ascertain which one is truly the most competitive {based solely on merit}. Packages are not due completed until March. If you then rise to the top you will then receive your appointment. If not at the top of the list, you will enter the national pool where selections may not commence until ALL the primary nominations are filled. Inmotion, unfortunately this is where your son will finally be accepted. Odds are, srhcasper can verify this.

I never received an LOA from USNA but about 3 weeks ago I received notification of nominations from a senator and my congressman...this past monday a rep. from my senator's office called and said I went to review and that I won the senator's appointment for the class of 2012!

So what you really should be pushing for is a nomination NOT an LOA you may get an appointment sooner than you think

see you guys on I-Day..hopefully!!!

Just Checked CIS and it was there 19 Dec 2007. The Rep never sent anything, or called, she must be busy with shopping for the Christmas Holiday.

Cool Christmas should have checked 25 Dec :)
LOA+NOM= Happy Camper!!!!!!

Now just Waiting for the BIG envelope.
