Please post LOA if you get one

OK, this may be bit masochistic, (and too early), but as non-varsity candidates start to get LOAs, would you please post the date?

Please also give "vital stats," if you don't mind. Thanks!

I saw a post about a WP LOA today. Anyone with a non-varsity athlete LOA from USNA yet?

^^^^^
My daughter received an LOA from West Point in July. :)

I don't think we'll be seeing any non-athletic LOAs from USNA for a few weeks; it's too early in the process.

PLEASE everyone take this with a grain of salt. The fact that person A gets an LOA with certain SATs, class rank, activities, etc. does not mean that person B with the same or better "stats" will get one. Nor does it mean that person C, with the same or "lesser" stats won't get one or won't get an appointment.

When people start posting this stuff, many candidates become discouraged -- and unnecessarily so. Remember that the overwhelming majority of people who receive appointments (prob 80%+) do NOT get LOAs.

As so many here have counseled, focus on the appointment. If you get an LOA, great. But if not, please don't be discouraged or disappointed or think that your chances for an appointment are somehow diminished.

“We are pleased to advise you that the admissions board has found you qualified to compete for admission to the US Naval academy class of 2012. You are guaranteed an offer of appointment if your remaining admissions requirements are completed.”

Only thing Mike has checked as needed is the MOC /VP nomination. (sent completed apps out in July)

Feet are not touching the deck at all today.......
Proud dad & mom moment.

Many thanks to all who answered all the questions and were supportive.
Double thanks to Zaphod, USNA 69, Peskemom.

We will be at the AF game on the 29th. Would love to meet any of you who are attending.

Mike Sr.

Woo Hoo, Mike(s)!

Can't believe it was 2 years ago that my daughter (now a happy Youngster) got hers in the mail--dated her birthday.

She would probably say it was the best day in her life (to that point) with a close second being that Christmas Eve when she got 2 MOC nominations in the mail, thus sealing the deal.

I can see her "hovering" in joy that day if I close my eyes. Thanks for letting me relive it.

Congrats to your son--and to you for raising such a fine young American. It's a grand journey upon which he is about to embark.

Cheers!

As I said privately - but wish to do so here....CONGRATULATIONS TO YOUR SON!

GO NAVY!
BEAT ARMY!

Welcome to the Class of 2012 proud parents and son
:-)

I remember how my kiddo woke me up from a sound sleep - she had come home from school early that day and picked up the mail...and came into my room shaking and crying and at first I thought something terrible had happened. Instead she is holding her LOA and saying: "MOM! I got an LOA! I got an LOA!" and the next day - the 1st week of October 05, she proudly wore her USNA sweat shirt to school - our high school tradition as to the way their seniors announce their college acceptances. Sure makes senior year a heck of alot easier for the young person and their parents, that I will say.

xchief... congrats to your son!!!!!!!

(ps.... want to reconsider putting your chef hat back on and work some miracles down on the yard?????? ;) )

I jut got goose bumps thinking back to when we received the good news

xchefmike

Congratulations!!! :)

It just got here!!! I freaked my cats out jumping around and screaming, but I couldn't help it!

WAY TO GO!!! Congratulations

Let us Know City/State?

Stats???

Should we start a Class of 2012 thread?

My daughter just received an LOA in today's mail. The LOA was dated 14 September 2007.

Needless to say, I have one happy se

Sorry,

I live in Lexington, Kentucky. My file for the academy was completed in July. Still working on medical stuff, but my nomination requests went in about two weeks ago. My LOA was also dated 14 September 2007.

A class of 2012 thread is an awesome idea!

Go Navy!

Congrats to everyone!

Do they continue to give out LOA's?

yes - in fact these are pretty early ones, Plebewannabe. LOA's typically come out through about January - although I recall some reported for last year's class that came out a bit later than that.

Remember - USNA gives out only about 200 LOA's to their entire candidate pool - these are numbers so small that most of you candidates won't see one and not getting one doesn't mean you won't receive an Appointment. And not all LOA-candidates accept their Appointments either - so don't mentally check off '200 slots' that you don't have access to.

Simply do YOUR best to present yourself as the most competitive you can and let the Admissions Board see you in top shape in all areas. Good luck and God speed to all!

Hi y'all! I've been lurking in the USNA forum for QUITE a while, so I finally decided to register. When do they begin sending out regular old appointments? I mean, if I don't get an LOA, do I have to wait till April to find out whether I get in, or is it possible that they begin sending out appointments before then, even while they're still sending out LOAs? I finished my application in August, so all I need now the ok from DODMERB and a nomination. It would be nice if I didn't have to wait 6 more torturous months before I find out whether I get in this year.

My son received his LOA this week. I'm not sure what statistics you would like posted.

usnagirl

early Appointments would/could come to those candidates with Presidential Nominations...meaning they have a parent in active duty or retired military service - and the rest of their application is strong enough that USNA wants them and doesn't wait for a Member of Congress' Nomination.

But most candidates have to go through the MOC pool and they typically start up in fall and through early winter. Here in our District our Congressman is very late - he doesn't even interview until mid-December so at the very earliest, an Appointment can come in late January - by the time that selection process is complete. So it depends on your Senators and Congressman's own processes to get a hint of the timing for the majority of candiates -
