LOA Class of 2013

My son got a call today from admissions stating that he would be receiving a LOA in the mail. What a big suprise. We were not expecting anything until atleast mid Sept. at the earliest. He is not recruited to play sports.
Has anyone else had a call this week? or a letter?

Congratulations! How exciting. He must be quite a kid!

hey congrats to your son. I am also an applicant for the class of 2013. Just wondering, did he have the entire application complete (teachers recs, personal statement, interview, etc...)

Yes, his application is complete.

Welcome aboard funtime! Congrats to your boy!

My son also received a LOA a week and a half ago. His application was completed by the third week of June.

Congratulation Patrish..... where are you from. Maybe we should start a class of 2013 - where are your from list. What do you think?

Wow congrats! When does the next review board meet?

From what I understand it would be Sept.

Congrats on the LOA's...Good luck with the nominations.

what were your stats like?

Some of the B&G's here might lend some insight, but might it be that USNA is finally getting with the idea that for these to be maximally effective for strong candidates, they need to be provided early in the process? It simply seems that over the past few years, USMA in particular was really ahead of the others, notably USNA. Just wondering as there seems to be an obvious development with this issue ...

Hearty congrats to those with LOAs already in the hopper. What a great boost!

USNA has been giving out LOAs for a few years now for those candidates that are highly qualified- the numbers are relatively low (100-150 +/-) and the candidate still needs to pass DODMERB and obtain a nomination.

My (Class of 1980) twin sons got the LOA a week and half ago and the Presidential Nomination last week, now waiting to hear the results of the DOD MERB exam. Didn't expect this to happen so fast!

gabridge: remember all candidates eligible for a Presidential nomination receive one (they are unlimited). However, there are only 100 appointments given each year out of all of the Presidential nominations.

Good point. Thanks.

Without going into minor details here are a few of the things my son has

Went to NASS
has completed application including teacher references
completed CFA
1300 plus on SAT
plays 3 varsity sports
attended the following leadership opp.... HOBY, Broyhill Youth Leadership Conference, Lead-America, and Congressional Youth
Is the president of the NC Beta Club
complete BG interview

Most importantly present yourself as you are and the rest will follow!

grad/dad: for USMA a candidate with a LOA only needs "a nomination", so Presidential Nomination would be sufficient for an appointment (assuming the candidate is medically qualified). Is USNA the same? (I understand that more nominations are better from an admissions administrative standpoint)

Same holds true for USNA.

Hoby? Outstanding!!!
