Sovereigndebt I think the only problem people may have is that your daughter is 2 years removed from Fordham and when current students comment on their negative experiences you try to disagree with them. You give lots of good information, but Fordham isn’t for everyone and not everyone has the same experiences while attending. When current students give information on their experiences you shouldn’t be discounting what they’re saying. In 2 years some aspects of the school may be different and when you’re talking specifically about freshman experiences you’re six years removed from your daughter’s experiences they may be very different. Fordham is an excellent school, but there are lots of others out there and they may be better fits overall for some of the students who considered Fordham. Good luck to all of the HS graduates with a difficult but exciting decision.

I agree that sovreign has some good advice, however I find that in many cases when I post a different opinion or have a take on a question from sovreigndebt I see a new post below in a matter of a day refuting my opinion. There is no need to always get the last work in on each topic. As a current student, it is possible that I have a different (not necessarily better or worse, just different) perspective on some things than a parent of an alumni would have and that should be OK.

My son was accepted to Georgetown EA and received a full-tuition scholarship to Fordham, which happens to be my alma mater. Georgetown gave him a partial scholarship, for which I am grateful. However, it will be substantially more expensive to attend Georgetown. He, however, fell in love with Georgetown during their Open House and could not be persuaded otherwise. So despite my misgivings about the distance from home and the fact he really doesn’t know anyone attending Georgetown, my son will be a Hoya in the Fall.
Good luck to all who chose Fordham. I wish you the best. It is an excellent school.

Chose GW over Fordham even though it was a really tough decision. It really could’ve gone either way, but in the end it was Washington over New York

I wish all the Fordham-bound students the very best, and thank Lefty Lou and sovereigndebt for all their helpful info and support! My daughter chose Sarah Lawrence College over her EA admittance to Fordham, even though she was in love with the LC campus. It wasn’t just the substantially greater merit scholarship she got from Sarah Lawrence – it is because she really is not a “main stream” personality, but a shy, contemplative poet, who will fit in better with the unconventional students and the intense and intimate curriculum at SLC. But Fordham is an exceptional choice for so many students – I feel sad to walk away, but glad I have another daughter who will graduate HS in 2019! Love to all!

No. I figured that the commute would be too long for Fordham, and my reach accepted me, so that’s where I’m headed
best of luck to everyone attending Fordham!

Hi ppl. I know this place is not for someone like me who would ask a question about transfer procedure but hope someone could give me any advices, even one short sentence. I don’t see an active transfer thread for fordham, so i decided to ask you guyes here.

I am going to submit my transfer application tomorrow, which I think is little bit late, so i will be put on rolling admission pool. I was wondering how significantly submitting the application at this time could harm my chances.
Here are my short stats.

School: Community College in NY
GPA: 3.900 with 41.5 credits, and currently 21 credits are in progress, expecting my gpa after this semester to be somehwere between 3.8 and 3.9
High school GPA: Somewhere between 2.2~2.4
Essay: strong as others’
Recommendation: decent as others’
Activities: not so strong but have some volunteer experiences
Hook: No hook, but i think i can at least give them a good impression as i started english and math from a very basic level, so is a great improvement over time.

Do you guys think I have a good chance or even a shot?
I apologize to you for asking this question here.
Thank you

To be fair guys, the Fordham board would be pretty quiet without sovereign. Do you know any better representatives for Fordham on CC?

Sovereign is well-informed and dedicated, the only things that should matter to prospective students. I would know much less about Fordham if it weren’t for his (of her) efforts. Honestly, it’s not as if Fordham’s alumni are trying to deceive you into attending. You’re paying the deposit.

I remember a post a couple of months ago in which a Rose Hill honor’s student explained his concerns about the program. Anglegrinderman respectfully disagreed and I was able to gather my own insights from the discussion. Sovereign regularly admits that Fordham’s financial aid is not perfect and that for now, Fordham’s admissions will be more stats-driven than holistic. I wouldn’t call that boosterism.

Good luck to omzac, My3Daughters, and Junior Mint. It’s been fun following your journeys! And thanks to Sovereign for all the work he puts into this board.

Spirit, I think that Sovereign is exceedingly polite, and rather than “hijack” a thread, will start a new one. Its not trying to get the last message, it is respecting others. Sov represents the best of Fordham, polite and respectful, while standing one’s ground.

So Sovereign is a guy??? Really??

LOL I just assumed he was a she based on the compassionate and careful wording Sovereign uses. I am guilty of coming off strong at times but I must note it is only done when, like Sovereign, Fordham is slandered and put down based on misconceptions, false ideas or just plain lies. We know Fordham is not for everyone and I too want to see kids (and parents) get through this process without too much stress. I have sung the prasises of other schools at other times and know there are many reasons why a family may select another school even if they want to go to Fordham.

Folks like Sovereign and I love the school, want to help families and when asked about the school, will sing it’s praises… but we do NOT make stuff up or post false numbers as I have seen on other posts and we have never disparaged another school…unlike some things I have seen said about Fordham. For those who may not have seen a post where I stated my connection, I did my undergrad there over 30 years ago, have been doing HS college fairs representing Fordham as a volunteer for almost as many years and have a D who just graduated. I am passionate about Fordham but I do know its weak points as well.

I hope everyone finds the answers they are seeking and gets into the school of their dreams. For some that is Fordham, and I think they are very fortunate to join such a nice family.

@kayf - I don’t believe that I said he/she was rude, but read into my post as you will. But I do stand by my words that sovreign sometimes likes to gt the last work in (see piano lesson post for a recent example). However, I agree that in general he/she adds to the wall.

BUT more importantly and more to the point of this thread - I wish everyone the best regardless of if they end up at Fordham or at another wonderful college. The idea is for each individual to try to find the best fit for him/herself academically, socially, and financially. To those who did choose Fordham, welcome.

Well going back OT, it’s a yes for me at FCRH!

Gonna be there for bio, learning cells n shtuff
Just jokes ;D Hope it’s nice there! And I look forward to seeing some CCers there :D
