Boonies13,

Those first three course choices are fine.

Keep in mind that, once you are here on campus, you can always contact the Office of Preprofessional Advising (http://www.lafayette.edu/academics/dean_of_studies/proadvis/) for advice in selecting your future classes.

In case you are wondering what exactly is required of Neuroscience majors, be sure to check out page 126 of the online Course Catalog 2005-07 (http://www.lafayette.edu/academics/catalog/Catalog_rev11.05.pdf).

With that said, I really think you should be taking PSYC 110. Although this page of the Registration Website (http://ww2.lafayette.edu/~registra/fyreg/majors/Neuroscience.php) says you can take PSYC 110 in the Spring, there really is no good reason to put it off. Plus, the two professors conducting lecture in the Fall are both really good guys. Also keep in mind that the sooner you take PSYC 110, the sooner you'll be able to take the more interesting upper-level Psychology courses.

Don't be frightened at the prospect of taking two lab sciences in one semester. The lab portion of PSYC 110 is not really a big deal...the emphasis is placed more on learning correct APA format than on conducting difficult experiments.

If you are really against taking PSYC 110 for whatever reason, use that fourth slot to take one of your three required Humanities/Social Science courses (part of the Common Course of Study). If you decide on this option, be aware that you will have to take BIO 101 in the Spring. You can take a course in Art History (I highly recommend!), English, Music, Foreign Language, Philosophy, Religion, A&S, Economics & Business, Gov't & Law, or History. See which courses on the "First Year Course List" (http://ww2.lafayette.edu/~registra/fyreg/Course%20List/CourseList.php) interest you, and I'll let you know if they are still open.

If you are considering taking Spanish, you will need to take the foreign language placement survey and submit a placement test score (AP, SAT II, or WebCAPE). Information on foreign language registration can be found here: http://ww2.lafayette.edu/~registra/fyreg/StationeryLinks/ForeignLanguages/FindingTheRightFLCourse.php.

Professor Ikegami's JAPN 101 course got fine reviews online by current students. It seems that most students earned an "A" in that course with minimal effort. Provided it fits into your schedule (it should since there are many sections of intro math and chemistry courses), that might be a good idea.

Let me know what you think.
