I have been telling everyone that there will be a June Academic Advising Program as in previous years to help incoming students select their courses for the fall.

I have since learned directly from "the source" that the program no longer exists, even though it may be listed on various webpages. Rather, incoming students will register for courses online over the summer. I'm sure that more information regarding this new process is forthcoming.

At the "Experience Lafayette" day, they said we would be chosing classes online this year, like the upperclassmen. I think telephone advising will be offered, and I assume we will get lots of written info?

They said that in the past only about 40% of the kids were able to make it to the academic advising on campus in mid-June, so they are stopping it.

Wow, I think its a shame they're eliminating that program. It was a very informative day for the parents as well as the students. My son really had no clue what classes to take before that day and received very good guidance so that by the end of the day he was really comfortable with his choices. I really enjoyed the parent sessions and getting to meet and speak with some of the faculty and administrators.

Yeah..... I really think that a day to help pick classes would have been a great idea. Now I'm just going to have to look in a book with no guidance? I don't even know what I want to major in for sure.... how can I know what classes to take?

A booklet was designed for the Class of 2010 to help them choose courses for the fall. While some information may be out of date or incorrect (the FYS choices vary year to year, and the June Advising Days mentioned no longer exist), the vast amount of information remains relevant.
