Please recommend a light, good battery laptop for business major?

I currently have a 15.6" Toshiba Satellite laptop that's a little over a year old. It works fine and has decent specs (intel core i5, 6gb memory) but it has a slow start up now and lags when opening programs and while using the Internet (school wifi is very fast so I know it's the computer's problem and not my connection).

Anyways, I would like to get something new. I am a business major and I enjoy watching movies and shows on my laptop often. I do not do any hardcore gaming, just basic games to past the time.

I'm thinking of going down to 14.4" because I would like something smaller to carry around and lighter. My current laptop is 5.4lbs and it feels bulky in my bag with my books and is a bit heavy.

I guess my criteria is a laptop that's good for a business major, light, and great battery. Backlit keyboard would be nice too. Will be used for Internet surfing, watching movies, work on Word and Excel, and small amount of gaming.

It won’t solve your weight problem but replacing the hard drive with a solid state drive should solve your startup time and opening program lag problem. A hybrid drive would also help.

Others can make laptop recommendations but they will need to know more about your budget.

Macs have some of the best battery life on the market, so you might look there. However, the price is usually enough to push most people away.

If you’re looking for a good combo between battery life and weight, I might suggest looking into an Ultrabook by Lenovo, Asus, Sony or Samsung. They all have reputable ultrabooks with moderately good battery life and extremely good weight, if that’s what you’re looking for. Be wary of the performance to price ratio though, as when you’re dealing with super light computers, something has to give, which tends to be overall performance.

…Install Ubuntu.

I’m not kidding when I say it doubled my battery life.
