Please, recommend caring, personable professors at Cal in Phil, Legal Studies,History

I will be late for instruction (because of military obligations) for about 2-3 weeks, so as an alternative to deferring admission to the Spring semester, I'd like to find those 3-4 professors who would allow me to miss the class, but read on my own and submit homework and other assignments online via email.

I'm a Legal Studies major, and I need to take LS courses as well as American History (general requirement).

Please, recommend your professors if you liked the way they treat students (if they were helpful, personable and approachable).

I really need to figure this out before June 1, if I can't find a solution, I'll have to defer (which will cause a lot of changes in my plans).

thanks in advance!

Oh, by the way:

I have to take 13 units from the following list:

[Upper Division Requirements | Legal Studies](<a href=“Legal Studies Undergraduate Program | Jurisprudence & Social Policy / Legal Studies”>Legal Studies Undergraduate Program | Jurisprudence & Social Policy / Legal Studies)

I suspect that any professor would allow you to do that as long as you let them know ahead of time. Most classes don’t have mandatory attendance and lots of students skip anyways, so you should be fine in any case.

thanks, Christopher. Everyone keeps telling me that my ONLY option is to defer.
Like, the first 3 weeks are critical blah blah blah.

I’ve emailed a couple professors to make sure it’s okay with them, but haven’t heard back yet. Last thing I want is to end up registering for classes with professors who don’t even read their inbox.

Anyway, do you guys recommend any particular classes or profs?

History 187 with Prof. Lacqueur. I always found him to be approachable when I was there. He’s quite a rockstar in the department so I definitely recommend giving him a try.
