Hello everybody,

I just happened to reject an admissions offer at SDSU this year (for the Bioinformatics program) after getting to read reviews from different people. Though I am still brooding over the rejection, I want to apply again to some reasonably good schools. But here’s the thing. I am settled in a place close to Los Angeles and I am looking for schools around this place that have reasonable reputation in terms of program, popularity and funding…specifically looking at UC’s (again after getting opinions from people that UC’s are better than the CSU’s,…is it true?).

I am an IT engineer and I want to persue my studies in BME or bioinformatics or a similar interdisciplinary field. Also, to play a little bit safe, I am also open to applying for Computer Science, if it has a higher probability of acceptance for me.

So here are my options and I want your opinion on these selections…

UCLA (BME program)

USC (Computer Science)

UCSD (Computer Science or Bioinformatics…which ever has high acceptance probability)

SDSU (bioinformatics…as i still want to hold on to it, worstcase)

CSUN (Computer Science)…i want opinion on this school specifically.

UCSB (Computer Science)

Please guide me as to what are my odds of getting into any of these (preferably UCs).
