Hello everyone, it’s my first time posting here, so please go easy on me if I exclude anything important or don’t format correctly.
Anyways, looking for anyone to give me some possible matches and safeties considering my stats below. Thanks in advance!
Caucasian male, rising senior from Texas.
GPA: 3.97 UW with most rigorous course load available. My school does not calculate (or maybe they do and just don’t disclose, haha, weighted GPA) and does not rank. In a fairly competitive class of about 120 kids.
*Also, I think it’s really important to note that my school does NOT offer ANY AP classes (explaining the lack of AP scores), rather we have dual-enrollment, and I have taken advantage of all of those.
Test Scores:
SAT I: Currently, my highest score is a 1500 (700 RW, 800 Math), but I recently retook with the essay and expecting slightly higher (hopefully lol)
SAT II: Currently self-studying for Math II and Physics, expecting to do fairly well on these, I’m not sure if to predict 800s as I know these tests can be really unpredictable, but should do fairly well.
ACT: Have not taken nor do I plan to.
Extracurriculars:
Two Years Varsity Tennis- will be team captain senior year
Compete in a national rocketry competition through a club my school offers- this is by far the most important EC (in my eyes, anyways) and I have referenced its significance in my app
Robotics- Team qualified for state competition, and ended up placing in the top quartile there
Public Speaking- This is something I recently took up (admittedly, not entirely by will, but by suggestion. In the end, I really learned to enjoy and appreciate it.) Managed to place top 3 in various meets as well as first in my district meet.
NHS (Leadership position)
Additional Dual Enroll Classes- Not sure if this is the place to mention this, but I have completed and plan on completing classes at a CC excluded from what my school offers, some of which are college physics and psychology
Probably forgot to mention some stuff, but if I did, it’s probably nothing significant
Essays/Recs:
Really difficult for me to quantify this, so I’m not even going to try. I’ve seen that there’s a bad stigma surrounding people quantifying their essays and recs too, so there’s that lol.
With that being said, recs should be good as the teachers I am asking share relationships that extend beyond just class with me
EFC:
Have not calculated, but I can say I am in a strange situation. Divorced parents with mom making <30,000 while father makes upwards of 100. I have briefly skimmed over the FAFSA and I’m not entirely sure of the baselines dictating which income is reported and stuff, and actually if anyone could elaborate on this, that would be greatly appreciated too.
Intended Major: Probably Mechanical Engineering with a possible minor or double-major in Neuroscience
I’m particularly interested in the study and analysis of the brain and am hoping to correlate this in the future with mechanical engineering
Preferences:
Pretty lenient here. I feel as if I can be content with a lot as long as the school isn’t majorly conservative and located in the middle of nowhere (I guess there can be exceptions to this with a really good school that has some cool characteristics) Open mostly to schools located in the Northeast, West, other parts of east (e.g. Virginia, North Carolina, places like this). Reach schools I am currently looking at are Northwestern to which I will likely ED, USC, UMich (Not sure if this is a reach, maybe low reach or something, but I’m pretty sure it is given how competitive engineering has become there). I feel like I could be content with many places as long as the school is known to be competitive in its field, and most importantly, has motivated students who truly take pride in what they’re doing. Other schools I’ve looked at and found interest in are Cal Poly, NC State, UVA, Northeastern, UT, and probably some others I’m forgetting.
Okay, sorry this is so incredibly long, but if anyone could provide me with some schools and just give any insight where it seems applicable, I would really appreciate it. Thank you guys!
