Pleasee be brutally honest about my chances..*low GPA*

Hey guys I'm a junior and NYU Stern is my dream school by a LONGSHOT. But being on these boards has really given me a reality check, especially about my chances to some schools, including NYU Stern.
So in this case, I might as well find out if I have ANY chance at all.

Intended Major: Information Systems

[general info]:
Extremely competitive public school in NY. 750 students in my grade, like top 10-15% go to top 50 schools.** According to my school's naviance website, the admit rate to NYU over the last 3 years (over 200 applicants) is 60%!!!**

First generation to go to college in the US, parents immigrated from Russia.
no financial aid needed

[Academics]
On my transcript it says: 93.6 (3.8), thats weighted and crap like health is accounted for
I re-calculated the way NYU would:: 89.7 (3.56)( Unweighted)
School doesn't rank because it's misleading
By the end of Senior year I will have taken 8 AP's:
AP Statistics
AP English Language
AP US history
AP Psychology
AP Environmental science
AP Calculus BC
AP English Literature
AP US Government and Economics

I basically have been through my schools "honors" system since 7th grade. Whatever I don't take AP, I take it on the Honors Level, which this year is only french and physics

[Test Scores]:
+SAT I= 1440/2150
Math:750
CR: 690
Writing:710
+SATII:
Only Biology in 9th grade; 620
I wanna take Math II and US history though. Obviously aiming for above a 700.
+Although I dont know how much this matters but Im probably going to get a mastery diploma for the NY Regents exams. This means I got atleast an 85 on each one, and I'm going to have taken over like 15 of these (anyone in New York knows what Im talking about)

[Extra Currics:]
Probably my biggest thing I guess is the following:
+I decided to create a company, it was initiallly meant to be a 501c3 non-profit, but to reach that status it would take up to a year and a half. Anyways, I'm the sole "employee" and "we"(me) specialize in creating web applications.
So far, I've been working on a really unique facebook application.
Here's the mock-up; Good Site
Basically, anyone can submit a problem, like for example if somebody needs textbooks for college but cannot afford. And generous people can choose to donate the money, or a fraction of the cost. In some cases if a non-profit organization wants to sponsor the cause, then the donor can recieve a tax-deduction for his donation.
If anyone knows programming, this stuff is pretty hard to code (and I dont mean HTML, I mean like ASP.net). It should be completed in the next month or so.

thats my main EC, I decided to skip out on the typical "volunteered for 500000 hours at a hospital" stuff

+I help teach at a local Russian school on sundays for 2-3 hours. Just basic math and russian language classes for 6-8 year olds. All classes are done in Russian, so hopefully this will buy me "minority vote", although you cant really consider being russian a minority.
+Taught Tennis all summer at a local country club
+I PLAN, on getting an internship this summer at the firm my dad works it. Software company btw
+I PLAN, on taking Computer Science classes at SUNY Stony Brook. One of the top CS schools in the nation

[Clubs]
+FBLA for two years. Went to states last year, but this I'm year for states I'm going to present my application for an event. I'm Treasurer of the club.
+Created a computer programming club. Obviously I'm the president.
+NHS
+Created web-sites for many of the school's clubs, such as the newspaper, poetry club, asian culture club, hebrew culture club. Also for a school band, where they can place their music, etc.

ummmm, this year I'm running for Class Treasurer. Usually no one cares about that lol, and I'm most likely running unopposed.
so yea, Senior Class Treasurer!

[Athletics]
Varsity Tennis for 3 years
last year= co-captain
this year= captain
I went to all conference, and my goal is all county for this year.
I'm ranked pretty high for USTA, 40th in the state and 900 something in the nation.

Im going to send a video of me playing and hopefully catch the coaches attention. because NYU is D3, and I know D3 players, it's not a hard conference to play in.

so yea, besides the academic underachieving...what kind of a chance do I stand at:
+NYU Stern (1st choice, ED)
+Carnegie Mellon
+UChicago
+Emory
+Boston College
+Boston University(safety?)
+Fordham (safety?)
+SUNY Stony Brook( safety?)

you're worried way too much brother :)

i have a 3.55 UW 4.15 W and i talked to my counselor she says i actually have a pretty good shot of getting in stern because from her experience they always take kids at my level if they've got ECs and scores.

plus ur loading on ap's which is perfect
so to sum

you've got a good shot.

you correctly named your safeties.

i think you have a very good shot at stern granted you apply ED. but seriously, you would have a decent shot RD.

UChicago i've heard is essay-dependent, so i don't think i could accurately chance that. + i'm not so acquainted with the school.

boston college would probably be a high match, if you get your GPA and SATs up a little bit more your chances will go up. (obvssss)

yah and suny sb is very good with CS

bumpppppppp

i think you're in

(eah, yoou're good for all these schools. You should apply for an Ivy while you're at it, because now is a good time to take a shot at one.

Also, come chance me at
<a href="http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/635063-small-town-junior-looking-advice-chances-big-name-schools-2.html%5B/url%5D">http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/635063-small-town-junior-looking-advice-chances-big-name-schools-2.html</a> thanks!

bumppeprpepepepe

You have a good shot. You have great EC's, your scores are just right, and your GPA isn't terrible. Good work and good luck! :)

<a href="http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/638334-brown-kid-story.html%5B/url%5D">http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/638334-brown-kid-story.html</a></p>

would some one chance - Have applied to GW, Penn State UP, UD. Already been accpeted to Hofstra University Honors college, Stony Brook University, St Johns University and U-Mass Amherst. 90 W GPA. About a 1900 SAT. Lots of Honors COllege and AP classes. GOod EC and work experince. Letter from Assemblyman whom I interned with was excellent. Good essay. What do you think about the schools I am waiting on? Do I have a chance? Thanks for the help

Ok, so first of all even-though your grades arent the best, with you rigorous course load it will show that you challenged yourself, also you test score help you grade alot, you have great test scores and good ec

+NYU Stern (1st choice, ED)~ I think that you have a good chance, not certain, but good. The only bad thing about NYU is it is a very popular school, many kids apply there, so it is very competitive. But dont get over stressed. The only down fall will be your grade, as you know but i think the rest or your app will exemplify how smart you are

+Carnegie Mellon~ reach
+UChicago
+Emory- slight reach
+Boston College~ match/ low reach
+Boston University(safety?)~ i wouldnt call bu a safety but i would say that you have a very good chance
+Fordham (safety?)~ Yep
+SUNY Stony Brook( safety?)~ yep

Bumppperrerrrre

your GPA isnt THAT low for NYU. People at my school with lower GPAs have gotten in. Dont worry, really :]

I think you have a good chance at Boston college too. I want to go to Carnegie and U of Chicago too; my stats are really different from yours though. It mainly essays for those schools..

If u do ED to stern I think ur in. The easiest way to combat the GPA is to show dedication to your interest with experience. For stern, a nice internship would suffice. Ur facebook thing works.

i say your probably in at nyu stern because you have a solid list of ec's to compromise for your average gpa. Chance me?
<a href="http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/606719-chance-me.html%5B/url%5D">http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/606719-chance-me.html</a></p>

I think you could definitely make it at Stern: especially with those ECs. If you're really unsure about yourself, you could always apply CAS Econ.
