Plebe phone calls

"Let's keep things in perspective if you don't get the overnight - some people have sons & daughters in IRAQ, for goodness sake!"

Don't think anyone here needs that reminder.

When the topic is 'plebe phone calls,' don't expect gravitas. Sheesh. Why do so many innocent observations here provoke attack?

Plebe summer is definitely more tolerable as time goes on. I don't think it is because the Cadre are easier on them necessarily, but the Plebes have learned how to do things the military way and that is a huge hurdle for most of them. The various field trips during the second half of the summer are a big deal. I remember my son describing how much food he consumed at Camden Yards. It was such a treat to have the ballpark food for a change. And Blackhawk, regarding sleeping arrangements, you will find that your Plebe will be able to sleep ANYWHERE. Since attending USNA, I am still amazed at how easily my son can fall soundly asleep and where he can sleep. When he brings some of his friends home on occasion, they will sleep in the family room on the floor without pillows or blankets. They claim it is no big deal. My son actually believes that he probably fell asleep in formation on more than one occasion waiting for inspections, etc. Bottom line is he could sleep on the floor or in the tub of your hotel room! :)

BLACKHAWK! I bet R's mama will be sleepin' on the floor! hehe! You better bring your sleeping bag just in case!

OK.. real question ... do the Fball players live with their companies or have their own area in Bancroft? I understand they spend most time Summer Training at Football starting about now.. after the season is over do they go back to the Company?

When we made our resevation we knew nothing about overnights. By the time we learned that there may be one we could not get another room or even a double. I then ordered a cot - if that wouldn't have been available an airmattress would have come with. The most important requirement form my plebe was the room had to have internet and a laptop had to come with us!

Also you will want to give your Plebe time alone in the room where they can make some private phone calls. They have had no privacy all summer and many enjoy that.

The football players live with their companies, but eat at team tables. I'm not sure how the watch/duty situation affects them, but they are a part of the company, even during the season.

KJ, You are right about who would be on the floor. I spend many nights in the dog house anyway :)
I think they pretty much have the same requirements that any other plebe has except they also have to combine football camp and practice in on top of that. The one concession is they do get to eat at training tables and don't have to get rated at mealtime.

mom2lola2011,

If they follow the same operations for 2011 as they did with 2008, then the football players will move for about 2 weeks into another area and I believe rejoin their company right after PPW.

^^^That was also how it was done for 2010.

Blackhawk.. I have football questions for you but decided to start a new thread to keep it to football.. :)

and DYENOIR.. I dont think anyone responded to your post above. From what I have gathered in my daughters' letters about plebe summer .. I think they have just gotten used to a lot of it and possibly a little easier now with the 2nd set of cadre. I will say the Cadre take VERY GOOD Care of our Plebes!
