I think it’s a good idea to apply to at least one reach school because you never know how things could work out. If you don’t apply your chance of acceptance is 0%, so if you’ve got the drive to build a good application then go for it. USC is a great choice, and it will be a reach, but it’s possible.

Looking through your ECs you had some interesting things that came up such as being leader in an MUN conference. However, your ECs lack focus and vary throughout your high school years. Perhaps the essay will be a good opportunity for you to pinpoint one activity that is really important to you. Try to show that you have a passion for something, but don’t try to force that passion or try to paint an unrealistic picture of yourself because that won’t work.

Your SAT score is below the average for USC, but you can make up for it with some great essays where you demonstrate your passion. Your chances at the other schools are decent - make sure you apply to a few clear safeties as well. To summarize, make the best of the rest of your application (essays etc…) to compensate for lower scores/grades.

Good luck!

The GPA might hurt you a bit but it shouldn’t be that bad. Your SAT score is a little below average, so it really depends on your recs and the essay you’ve written.

It’s not a bad reach and I encourage you to go for it.

USC is absolutely worth a try!!! And the other schools on your list are basically matches! Great ECs and pretty good grades! Hope this helped
GOOD LUCK!!!

Chance me?

I think you have a great chance at all! Chance me? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/816473-chance-aa-female-elite-schools-updated-stats.html</a> <–Include Yale also!

Thanks everyone-- but i just talked to my parents- and USC is out of the question for multiple reasons ie; needs to be in more of a suburb, less city life- so i cant apply =[

redfedora- i just retook the SAT in december. it seemed to go really well, but i have to see how the curve plays out on this one

scifry- for one part of an application i submitted for another uni, i wrote about theater-- the different aspects of it- behind and on the stage over the years. haha, yeah, my ec’s are very scattered because ive changed schools three times. [our middle school went up to ninth grade, and i didnt want to miss two months of school because of paper work stuff, so i went to boarding school, then came back home a year later] so it was pretty hard to stay consistent because each school offered a diff. variety of clubs

do any of you know of any public unis in texas or california that have a rep/ admission range similar to USC [or slightly lower]. also if you know of any unis with strong MSAs, or anything else for that matter, id totally appreciate it!

thanks again =]

I would say your only reach is usc and id still give you about a one in three chance. Best of luck!
