PNW parents can you help her decide?

An offspring of a pal is at Linfield and loves it. My own DS is there TODAY for the tour – he’s interested in creative writing. Will know more when he gets home!
Portland has a wonderful atmosphere – but it actually has a higher crime rate than many realize. Tell her not to be naive . . .

HL–I know, as this is home, that our crimerate is high for the national average. Still, it is very unlikely that your DS would be in those areas while at college-----esp. if she chooses Linfield. The only thing I do not allow my DS to do is use the Max late at night because he is asian and I worry that he might be targeted. Otherwise, I have had no concernes at all for PDX.

meant “he”

Random Linfield bit: My old chemistry professor just created a January-term course: CHE-300, the science of brewing. It sounds promising from this end.

son of opie - Now I wish I was going to college!!! Science of Brewing :)

I don’t know enough about UPortland to factor it in, but am familiar with SMC and Linfield and think they have more in common and a stronger college campus/community feel. SMC is definitely more preppy/conservative/sports-focused in a way that would be a turnoff for my D. It definitely draws a more private/Catholic high school crowd than Linfield and is more suburban than small-town near a city. Overall, I think most highly of Linfield and was sorry I couldn’t get my D to look at it more closely.
