Pogue Scholarship

Congratulations everyone!! OOS Pogue is a huge deal indeed!!

I've been wondering for a while if the housing app fee was covered by the scholarship. I know that the enrollment fee is, but I'm not sure if housing fees are too.

It is. I sent Mr. Thornton an email and he said it was :) Just send a note to housing telling them that your Pogue Scholarship will cover the fee.

i sent the same email. haha i was confused by what "Fees" are covered. basically, fees is just included with tuition. we still have to pay orientation costs.

psych2007, are u the girl from chicago who was a pogue finalist? did u get it too? i thought only 5 oos got it. me, margsala, terence, jessica from GA, and south dakota girl.

I'm IS but I know I played monopoly with three of the OOSers who got it so I know Terence, Molly (SD girl) and Andreas from CA got it so I'm not sure about Jessica from GA (who I don't remember) But I've talked to the other three.

Annnnyways, congrats to you OOSers who got it and get a whole lot more money than I do. S'ok, I have a tuition grant from my school so it's not that bad to go to UNC. Does anyone know about that thing we're supposed to do over the summer that they talked about? Did they call it ropes or something?

pogues do something over summer? sweet! never heard that...

oh then they def gave more than 5. me, terence, molz, jessica def. did, andreas?! he got it? cool! and then margsala too.

Yeah, I'm the girl from Chicago. Looks like we were so great they had to give out more than five.

yay! thats awesome! know anyone else? so now theres 7 of us

what kind of strategies or methods helped with winning this scholarship? What kind of stats did OSS and Instate winners have? I am a Instate student who applied to UNC and is trying to aim for this scholarship.

Im instate and also applying for the Pogue. How big of deal is it if you're not a minority? I saw that they are aimed at minority applicants.

Not a big deal if you're not a minority. I'm 100% white. But if you can explain WHY you care about diversity, in addition to being academically and extracurricularly stellar, then you're doing good.

would I even have a chance at getting the Pogue with an SAT score of 1800? Be honest. Because I don't want to waste my time if it's going to be too hard/impossible.

Opinions?

it's honestly not about your SAT scores. what have u done extracurricularly and in the community to really make a difference? ur SATS certainly wont help u, but it wont take u out of the running if ur an outstanding individual.

Wow, it's so surreal to be reading this thread, because I'm currently attending the school that Andreas went to, so to me it feels weird to see people talking about someone I actually know, lol! Anyway, I applied for the Pogue and am really hoping I can get it, because my parents won't let me go OOS for college if I don't get scholarships to cover everything. I'm so nervous, though; I didn't think there were so few spots!

Hey does anyone from last yr know exactly when the finalist weekend was last year/ when it might be this year?

Last year is was February 18th (You can find a post of me sitting at the Carolina inn in this thread if you look for it) I have no idea when it will be this year though.

Has anyone heard anything yet?

no but i think it will only come out at the end of the month.

it'll be first week of February guys. sorry, it takes them awhile...

Have any of you guys who applied for the Pogue scholarship, accept the offer of admission yet?

Because there are these two boxes we can check, and since we don't know whether or not we're actually going to get scholarship money, should we just go ahead, accept and pay it out of our pocket and assume that we won't get scholarship money from UNC?
