Point Park Ballet

My daughter was accepted to Point Park with a concentration in ballet. This is sort of odd because my daughter was auditioning for the jazz concentration -- her cousin is at Point Park in the jazz concentration and absolutely loves Point Park. But part of the audition is a pointe audition required for candidates for the ballet concentration and optional for other candidates. My daughter has had excellent ballet training and has been on pointe for several years, so she opted to do the pointe for the judges. I guess they liked her for that.

Anyway, I was wondering about the ballet program at Point Park. I had never thought of it as a ballet school, but maybe I am just ignorant. Is it first rate? Do their dancers enter companies?

I guess all dance students take the more or less the same classes the first two years. I assume she could change her concentration. We also like having the option for her to move into dance pedagogy.

She has also been accepted at UArts and Rutgers Mason Gross, and she is waiting to hear from Fordham Alvin Ailey.

Your thoughts would be much appreciated.

Point Park has very good ballet. If this is where she wants to go I would go. I am sure she is good enough to switch if she wants to. But she will get plenty of jazz even if she is a ballet major.

Daughter has a very good friend who is a freshman ballet major at Point Park and has been very happy with the level of difficulty of her classes and the opportunities to audition for performances. She is also able to take modern and jazz classes which she enjoys too.
