Just got word my daughter has been wait listed artistically until April 18. I guess this is better then a NO? Can someone who has been through this process explain to me what that exactly means to be wait listed. What do you think her odds are of getting accepted.
Does this mean they are waiting to hear from the artistically accepted yes kids and if they decline it opens up positions for those on the wait list?
That’s exactly what it means. My daughter came off the waitlist 3 years ago and that same year there were a number of other students who also were accepted off the waitlist according the parents’ posts here.
Thank you so much for the reply. Did they let you know by the date given? I am just wondering if we will in fact find out one way or the other on April 18 or is it possible they say the wait has been extended to such and such date. As you know the waiting is tough so hoping for eventual good news or closure.
@Jalynndance my D is waitlisted for Acting, and she emailed the other day checking in, as she has know she was on the WL for a while now. The response was that we would be contacted 4/18, and if there was no movement, 2 weeks after that, and if there was still no movement 2 weeks after that! It was a little more specific than that, so you might want to touch base with them.
oh my let the torturous waiting begin. Is this a common practice with schools meaning still no movement 2 weeks still no movement 2 weeks? That makes me believe they have tiers of wait list yes groups… yes letters go out to tier one then they are given deadline to commit those who don’t they go to the next tier and the process just continues until they fill the number of spots… Is that how this whole process works. Sorry for all the questions new to all this.
@Jalynndance Just wanted you to be aware that many schools “over accept” in order to get the amount of committed students they want. So- for some schools- regardless of how many kids decline, if their acceptance rate was high, they will likely never even get to the wait list. So make sure you commit to another school by May 1st if you have another option. Then if a waitlist does come through, it’s a happy surprise.
I would assume that would hold true for academic acceptance but artistic musical theater acceptance?
If that is the case why even tell these kids they still have a shot? What is the point of a wait list letter?
The same is true for MT. They over accept to get the yield they want. Sometimes they still don’t get the number the want, and then they go to the wait list. You should commit to another school before May 1 if you have that option. Then if you come off the wait list, you may have to forfeit your deposit at the first school.
I don’t know that a date was specified that year. The people were accepted off the list on May 1st. I hope no one has to wait that long this year.
@Jalynndance - Yes- I was referencing artistic acceptances, not academic. (as @CTDramaMom did as well). The schools will always make a waitlist in case of the worst case scenario happening - that no one wants to attend their school that particular year. But that is rare of course. There are so many schools that have waitlists, but many never need to use them. It is simply a safety net for the school.
although devastating to hear realistic and good information to know. I now clearly understand the process as to why but sure hard on the applicant .You really better off to get the no at least get closure then the false hope wait list.Thank you both for your time and explanations.
Did you ever hear anything back from Point Park acting wait list?
