What's the breakdown of how many audition vs. how many are called back for the masterclass??

I don't think there is a set number of people called back for the class. When my daughter auditioned last year, I think there were about 36 kids auditioning and about 12 were asked to stay. But I think that is different every time. Just depends on who they want to see more of. Good luck! Hope your audition goes well if you decide to audition at Point Park!

How did auditions go today!!! Or, rather, almost yesterday?
Thoughts?
What did you like, didn't you like, didn't prepare for haha jk jk.

I Come from a really small dance school in WA and am behind technically but dance is my passion and the only thing i have ever wanted to do. I understand that the dance department at Point Park is one of the best and selective. I have researched the program and really love it and think that it would be the perfect place for me...the only problem is i'm pretty sure i wouldn't be accepted in. Have any advice on what i should do to improve and become ready for an audition? Do they take transfer students from other universities?

Elise
I know that PointPark has a summer dance intensive that you could attend. This would allow the faculty to get to know you and your passion. YOu don't say what year you are, so it maybe difficult if you are planning to audition this spring, but if you area junior this would give you a summer. THis would both increase the intensity of your dance and let you really find out if this is what you want to do.

Thanks for getting back to me! =)
Yes i noticed that they had a summer program which I'm interested in but i am a senior, will i still be able to take it? Does it require an audition also?

It does require an audition. THey should have the audition schedule listed by now, we haven't checked. I believe they also allow a video audition if you are far from a site. Being a senior should not be a problem. A friend from my D's school was there last summer before starting as a freshman there.

Thank you so much! Is the information for video auditions on the website anywhere?

Hi,
This is my first post. My daughter recieved a letter stating " acceptance deferred until further auditions are completed" is this a bad sign?

cmh - no, it is not a bad sign, it simply means that your D is still in the running, which is good news :D.

Of course getting an "you are accepted" letter would have meant that the waiting game is over, but being deferred can imply for example that a) they already sent acceptance letters to similar types, and they are now waiting to see how many commit or b) that they simply only have so may spots left (Point Park is rolling), and want to wait to make a final decision once all auditions are done.

Either way, hang in there :)

Hey Everybody!! I am a junior in Highschool and I am planning on auditioning for point park University for Musical Theater Major. This is my first choice school and I am soooo nervouse about the audition process. Should I bring 4 monolouges because I need two for acting and two for MT? What about the dancing part of the audtition. anyone who has gone through this please reply back! I’m not a dancer but I’m an actor and a good baritone…Thanks

ppwannab-- It’s so great that you are getting prepared now for this process! Kudos to you on taking the initiative.

I auditioned for MT at PPU this past november (I got accepted for acting though). You have some good questions.
- I wouldn’t worry about four monologues. At the time of my PPU audition, I only had 2 prepared. I was called back for MT and Acting, and I wasn’t asked for any more than 2 monologues. However, it may be nice to have a 3rd prepared incase they want to see it, but I wouldn’t stress too much about it.

The dance audition, when I auditioned, was all ballet. They said it was strictly for placement, but really, I think they want to see that you can move. Especially since you are a boy, they primarily want to see that you can pick up quickly, carry yourself with pride, and not trip over your feet. That’s not to say that dance training isn’t a plus though. Could you possibly get into a basic ballet class to prep for auditions? The training will prove VERY useful to you in the audition process, even if it is very basic.

If you have any more questions about the audition, feel free to ask me. Though I am not going to PPU next year, it is a great place! Good luck!

As for the importance of the dance audition…we were told it was 40/40/20 and the 20% was your dance audition (which is a little more than just placement). It seems, however, that in this process if you ask enough people your head will spin with the variety of “things they’ve been told…” Some schools definitely only weigh their dance audition as placement and some don’t even have a dance audition if you choose a regional site to audition, such as Webster and Hartt.

Thank you guys so much! I’m trying to get into my local dance class after I’m done with finals and my act. I have taken some dance classes but I am still worried that I wont b able to pick up the dance movies quickly. Do you know of any kind of DVD that I can get that will teach me something just incase I can’t get into the class?

so i’m auditioning next sat!! (november 14th) and i’m so nervous!! i just read on the site that about 1,000 students audition for the conservatory and they accept 40 into MT and 35 into acting! i feel confident but i’m still rally nervous, its my first choice school and i want everything to go right. I’m mostly worried about the call back and the dance part of the audition…any tips?

I auditioned yesterday too, did you think it was weird that there were no callbacks???

Did they speak to the group prior? and if so did they comment on the process for the day as in posting a call back notice? I will venture to say if so…that’s a bad sign. If not, the waiting will continue I think.

My D auditioned at Point Park in October. Because the group was so small (around 15 auditioned) there were no call backs. She did, however, perform both her songs and both monologues. I’m happy to say we just found out about 15 minutes ago that she was accepted into the program for Fall 2010. We didn’t receive the letter yet but it stated on our Pointweb account that it was sent out last Friday. She also called and spoke with her admissions counselor who confirmed her acceptance. So just because there was no callback doesn’t mean it’s a bad sign…were there alot of kids auditioning that day? Hang in there…

Make sure when you are speaking with someone or checking the website that you are differentiating between an acceptance in to the school and an acceptance into the conservatory. If it an acceptance in to the conservatory program it will tell you that a scholarship or apprentice letter has been sent out from the conservatory. If it is from the school in general it will say the an acceptance letter has been sent out.

Good point Pohsmom…my D was accepted academically in Septemeber and artistically about 3 weeks after auditioning in October. We noticed the status change on the website and received the letter and scholarship offer about 5 days after that.
