WHat's like the maximum length of deferment? Let's suppose that a student who is accepted to a med school has to serve the military for two years. And it is not his choice; he is obliged by law. Will the person be able to attend the school after two years of service? Or does he have to apply again?

Most schools have some sort of deferrment policy in place...either on a case by case basis or just out there. Some schools give deferrments out like candy for any reason at all, while others want a "good" reason - which I think military service certainly qualifies. Other "good" reasons tend to be things like Teach for America, Americorps, and the Peace Corps.

It is, of course, always possible to apply after that stint in the military. Actually being in the military would make applying difficult (not impossible), but it's always possible to defer even a little bit further as well.
