I must serve in the army. What to do?

I must serve in the army (not American), so I am wondering if it's possible to take two years off after acceptance.

Every college Ive heard of allows you to take 1 year off before matriculation, no worries. For 2 years' deferral you have to negotiate specially but with requirements like those it certainly won't be much of a debate...you'll be fine

To medical school? Or to undergrad? While it's theoretically possible, medical schools will demand to review your reasons for deferral and will generally tell you that they'd have preferred that you take your two years and then applied.

They will usually grant deferrals for academic reasons and rarely for personal ones (i.e. to backpack through Europe). If their only recourse is to withdraw your acceptance, my suspicion is that they will grudgingly accept that you're gone for two years.

my friend is doing the same thing actually! he's international as has to serve for two years in the army. he's graduating with the '10s instead of the 08s, but apparently it works out somehow....he's not applying with our class but applying with the other class instead
