Political Bias with Personal Statements

I am currently working on my UC personal statement, including UC Berkeley. I am a political science major and (gasp) a Republican. I can't really hide this fact in my personal statement. I've worked with various Republican campaigns.

I assume that most of the personal statement readers (?) are going to be left-wing; they're academics at Berkeley, need I say more? And I'm sure they can't be impartial, even if they claim to be, right? I really have no choice but to talk about my political views, though, unless I keep it vague: "I worked with a political campaign for the 2012 presidential elections" but then it sounds fake.

Please help me out!

It’s not a problem if you mentioned which party you worked with, and it won’t be held against you.

The people on the admission board aren’t lunatics. They were put on the admission board for a reason. They understand and appreciate that students come from a variety of backgrounds and beliefs. Political views will only be held against you if you are offensive towards those with opposing views. Keep any discussion related to the work you did, and not the party platform, and it will not be an issue at all.

Agreed. The Berkeley College Republicans (I’m told, so don’t quote me  ) is the largest student group on campus. Have no fears. But as a Freshman you want to sound like you’re willing to learn - for any school’s app, really. And of course, you should be. Have an open mind. That’s what every school is looking for.
