Politically biased admissions?

I’m applying as a junior transfer to UPenn. I’m a poli sci major and I lean quite left. I have a personal statement essay on an interesting topic thats about my life and past…blah blah blah. I don’t talk about my politics in it however.

The thing is, I run a political web-site. It show my “passion” for government and my chosen major. A huge understatement would be to say that it shows my bias.

Is it a good idea to list this(by name) on my app? I would like to b/c it shows my commitment to my beliefs, reflects my hard work, and communicates something about me that isn’t otherwise explained in my app.

does penn lean one way or another? if so, does that go for the adcom as well? If there is any chance the “tasteful” but biased content might hurt my chances, I won’t name it.

Opinions?

no. you're fine. list it. for all that is good list it, mate.

Well, I was part of Freedom's Answer last year, a political action group which tried to increase 18 - 21 voter turnout. When I mentioned it in my resume, I made sure to note it was non-partisan....

FWIW, I clearly listed that I had done work for the Democratic party around the elections and got in ED.

eckie - any group that was trying to get the 18-21 yo voters out last election was certainly not non-partisan ; ) but i know what you're saying.

lol, we all know who the young crowd votes for ;)
Hint: look at MTV then look at Bush...:doublelook:

For what my opinion is worth, I think you should put it on...just because, well, Penn is quite left leaning and it makes you intresting.

if i do list it by name, what is the likelyhood the adcom will view it?

not likely unless u place focus on it in essays and make it an important part of ur application.

And if it's well done, then it will greatly help
