I have two questions. One, I keep finding contradicting rankings for UC-SD online about the ranking of the political science program at UC-SD. How highly ranked is it?
Also, if Public Policy a separate major from political science?
I'm really excited about UC-SD, I just want to make sure about the program.

I spent most of my four years focused on comparative European government, but I graduated as a general Political Science major. You can choose to do a focus on IR, American Politics, Public Law, Public Policy, etc. Check the undergraduate major tab on the department website for the requirements. You can look at the schedule of classes from previous quarters to see which of the required courses were offered and, more importantly, who was teaching the class.

So long as you recognize that going to a UC means you’ll have to take the initiative to get to know professors, the differences in departmental prestige among schools within the system is minimal. Undergraduate major rankings don’t mean much, so just choose the school that fits you the best as you’ll do the best academic work when the rest of your life is in order. Take a look at the faculty of each school and see if any of the professors are doing work or have done research that is of particular interest to you. Much of this will depend on what you’re planning on doing after graduation.
