political science/financial aid

I'm currently a high school junior in Maryland and plant to major in political science obviously George Washington is near the top of my list I would like to know how well regarded it is nationally as a university and as far as tuition i know its very high how well regarded is the financial aid to bring it onto par with my state school UMD

also how hard is admissions? It seems low at 31 percent but i’ve never heard of too many people saying it was a difficult school to attend

I go to GW now and I’m not sure about the official rankings, but if you’re looking into political science you’re in the right place  GWU is known for its political science and international affairs (my major!) programs. It’s pretty well known around the district (especially for these programs) and I know a lot of people who have awesome internships and jobs around the district; there are a lot of people who intern on the hill, I know some people who are at the White House, some people interning at embassies, law firms, lobbying firms, etc. Basically, there are a lot of opportunities to take advantage of and it is a well-known school for these undergrad programs especially.

As for financial aid, I can’t speak for the school as a whole, but I received a really good financial aid package last year. I got a half-tuition scholarship plus some aid, which I did not expect at all. My parents did not want me to go to a super-expensive undergrad, but with the money I got my costs are actually slightly less than my state-school from home; OSU.

I don’t know a lot about admission statistics, so I can’t be of much help with that, but in the poly-sci/international affairs majors I can tell you that it is very highly regarded.

I hoped that helped and I’m sorry I can’t give you more specific information in regards to admissions. Good luck with your college search and know that in the end you’ll end up where you’re supposed to be! :)

This was very helpful thanks alot! George Washington is defiantly high on my list as of now
