Political Science: USC vs NYU

I was accepted as a political science major at both schools - which has the stronger/more respected program? Which should I choose?

I forgot to mention that I’m pre-law. Which college or department (NYU or USC) will law school’s consider more prestigious?

Undergrad is not just about major. NYU and USC are both great schools. The biggest difference will not be in strength of department, but in the environment. USC has a campus, with warm weather throughout most of the year. NYU does not have a traditional campus, and has distinguishable seasons.
The most important thing for Law School admissions is GPA and LSAT score. The perceived prestige between each schools is negligible. It’s not like you’re choosing between a top 25 school and a NO NAME SCHOOL.

anxious,

The two universities are quite different, mostly because of the location. Some New Yorkers cannot imagine themselves anyplace other than in that city. Others feel the lack of a real campus a drawback. You have to find the best fit for you.

There are rankings and rankings. U.S. News ranks SC at #23 and NYU at #33. SC is more selective. Last year their admit rate was 24% and NYU was 30%. Both have fine art schools. Both are in large cities with many cultural resources.

My suggestion is to visit these universities. Sit in on a political science class. Take a tour. Talk to students. Discuss your goals with an academic advisor. Find out where you feel you wish to spend the next four years.
