political science

can anybody tell me what this major is like ? What are the career outlooks for it Also, what about internships and study abroad

What is it like? You study a lot of political science? You read a lot - mostly criticisms of current political systems and a lot of political theory. In the beginner years you will study basic current political systems, like American politics, and you study quantitative political analysis - you learn to analyze situations using probability, multiple variables, etc. to see which outcomes are most likely and preferable, etc. More advanced classes will consist of the study of law, political theory, more advanced quantitiave analysis, etc.

Career prospects? You can go to gradute school or law school. Most jobs in the field of political science require a PhD or Masters. Otherwise, you’re just like most college graduates who didn’t major in business - you can apply for a lot of different jobs in a lot of different fields.

You can get internships in a lot of different areas - I always did legal work, primarily for the district attorney in new York city. My friends worked for political organization, radio stations, NBC, fashion magazines, etc.

There are jobs in DC and state capitals for political science majors with just BAs. My daughter has one… it is true, though, that many political science grads go on to law school or to get a masters.

It is a pretty easy major to study abroad with’ my daughter went to a Scandinavian country for a semester. She also had internships with the US Department of State, in a US senator’s office, at the Army War College, and teaching social studies to middle school students.
