Politics and Biomed

I have a deep passion for both politics and healthcare. For a long time I wanted to become a doctor. In healthcare I love helping others and learning about the human body. I am in many science classes and been in science oriented clubs with hospital volunteering. But I also love following politics and in the debate club. Should I do a degree in health policy with pre-med requirements? A biomedical degree with political electives? I basically want to go to medical school but explore politics and the same time. Any ideas?

My daughter is in a BME PhD program now. She studied BME as an undergrad. She has become intrigued by a potential direction that her PhD could take her and that is science and technology policy, bioethics, etc. This is a new vein of interest for her. She didn’t take any politics related classes as her engineering program was busy. And who knows whether or not she will follow this vein.
Certainly study what interests you and prepares you for the next steps that you want to achieve. If you do want to go to medical school you will need to complete premed requirements, but my understanding is that this usually leaves room to study other interests. I don’t think otherwise that here is a particular required course sequence.

Thanks for your help!

You can do pre-med with any major, but you have to take the pre-med courses as well.
