Hi

What are the most well respected politics departments in the US? I am from the UK so am pretty new to it all. I'm espeically interested in political theory.

You're going to have to be more specific if you're interested in theory, mostly because some of the best departments aren't so hot with theory right now (MIT).

The typical "top 10" is Harvard, Princeton, Yale, Stanford, Michigan, Columbia, UCSD, Berkeley, UCLA, and Duke or Cornell or about 10 other schools.

You're much better off worrying about fit than ranking. If nobody in the department you end up at is doing work on your area of interest, it's not really worth being there.

As UCLAri said, look for fit before you look for name--always.

If you are specializing in American Politics, you may very well want to end up at Princeton or Yale, but if your specialization is Quebec Speratism and you are checking out Harvbard instead of Universit. de Montr
