Years past released have been 61 and 63 from what I've seen, I don't believe it has ever been above a 65% for a 5 in AP Bio, but this year was a new exam.

It looks a lot easier to me, but I’m not completely sure…

It looks like more of a critical thinker test now, than a memory and cramming lots of vocabulary terms / processes.

But the plain crammers that aren’t up for the critical thinking would score lower.

So just a commentary, I’m not going to argue which is more difficult to do…

@tangentline did you take it?

I looked at the FR and heard from people it was easy (and I agree as it doesn’t ask for the really difficult vocab)… :)

Nope, I took it last year.

bump

I took it this year! :slight_smile: By the percentages, do you mean the percent of MCQ’s we answered correctly? Or the total, composite score (MCQ + FRQ)?
If it’s the latter, I’m going to guess anywhere from 62-65% :)

@MathGuy777 yes I mean composite, and thanks for the input. That would actually be pretty awesome if that was the curve.

bbuuummmpp

@jtalley24: I’m sure you did well :)

I think 62 - 65%

I’m going to guess around 68.

I want to say around 66%. Inferring data and understanding concepts takes a lot less effort to me then memorizing a bunch of facts.

I think it will be lower this year than years to come, simply because no one was prepared for THAT type of MC test and most probably studied REAL Bio concepts (transcription, translation, cell resp, photosynthesis, immunology, etc.). Based on MC alone, I would have guessed about 61, but my guess for composite is 63-65 simply because the essays were much easier than previous years.

Honestly, I’d be content with a 4 and right now, as long as I pass (3+) I don’t really care what score I get.

Ok does anyone see the curve being greater than 2/3 (~67%)? Because I’m confident that i got at least 30/41 point for the essays (~73%) and at least 46/69 (~67%) for the MC. Those are low estimates. I probably ended up with ~73% total. Anyone think that these estimates would not receive a 5? I also know that Trevor Packer posts results on twitter, and AP Biology is coming in tomorrow (just stat.s about overall performance). Anybody think he’d give info about the curve?

Well, the Barron’s review book predicted that it would be 86% and up, but I highly doubt it.

“AP Biology scores, 2013: 5: 5.4%. 4: 21.4%. 3: 36.3%. 2: 29.5%. 1: 7.4%. These may shift slightly as late exams are scored.” - Trevor Packer, Head of The College Board’s Advanced Placement Program

That is just an evil curve for a 5.

“AP exams are not curved”, basically professors and I believe college students took this exam to determine the points required for each scores, but a 6-page summary of the results is posted on the AP biology teacher community, anyone have access??? lol

According to the Summary of the AP Biology 2013 Exam Results that was posted on the AP biology teacher Community from College Board, a minimum of 78 raw points out of 99 were required to earn a score of a 5 on this year’s AP biology exam. Form O.

Man, that’s just rough.
