Poll: do u even read the text books?

Throughout the school year.

Or do u just read notes. not study at all and just pay attention? read prep books?

i.e. how do u study?

I did read part of Campbell's for Biology. I used a different version of Finney and Thomas for Calculus.

I try to read the text and do the problems there. Then, I use a prep book.

i read my physics c book, but i don't read gov or stat, nor did i read calc ab (although i should've) or euro last year... it's just so boring, i can't stand it.

Never. Not in Chem, Bio, or BC.

I tried. I really did. In the end..prep books' notes, internet notes, forums worked the best for learning material. The book has waaaay too much useless "fluff".

i agree. I havent even opened my american pageant book.
AP bio, i've read some of it...bc it's interesting

ap gov, havent opened it.

ap comparative gov, havent opened it.

ALL notes/review books/websites/ for me!

It depends on the class.

US: Yeah, I've read every chapter in "The American Pageant."
Bio: I've read everything relevant to our notes in Campbell's, but it would be a waste of time (for me, at least) to read the entire chapter (that is, including some of the unimportant details my teacher doesn't lecture on).
Calc: No, not really, unless I need to clarify something. My teacher's notes are usually easier to follow, though, so I just use those. And reading a math textbook is obviously a little different than something like Science or History...

I have read the Bio book (life: science of biology) from chapter 1-55. 56-58 for this week. And i mean everything. Even things we didnt need to go over, and will probably never come on the AP. I also read parts of Solomon, Berg, Martin's Biology. Very helpful.

I probably would have read our Music Theory AP book, but we got them three weeks ago, so its kinda pointless now...

ushap: not even once....henretta is filled with useless stuff
bioap: yeah id read the chapter before the test cuz our teacher did not teach anything
calc: dont really use the book...just to look up formulas

ushistory: haven't taken a single note, haven't scored below a 95 on anything, and this is a college class, not AP...

Depends on the class.

Some classes I have great teachers and confusing textbooks (calculus, human disease) and some classes I have not so good teachers and good textbooks (government).

I have barely read our textbook for IB: History of the Americas :)

Physics - I have read Resnick Halliday Walker from cover to cover. I looka at the pictures for fun :D

Biology - A Modern Approach to Biology by MBV Roberts. Brilliant book...entertained me and helped me pass. :)

English Lit - yeah well I had to read the Tempest, all the short stories, all the poems etc. Not that I minded :)

Bengali - flipped negligently through the prescribed textbooks. That's all I did but it worked :)

Math - I'm sorry, you couldnt pay me to read a Math textbook. I'll work out the problems though :)

Chemistry -textbook? whats that? Notes? Huh? What notes?

Chemistry - Read the textbook from the beginning to the end.
Calc BC - Really did read at first but a tidbit lazy now.
USH - I love reading the textbook and read most of it.

ap chem: no notes, book or prep books . im also pulling a d+ in there :p so dont take my advice
ap us history: nada, B
ap english: nada, c+
precal: dont understand my teacher, and i actually enjoy math text books but i usually just know the stuff somehow unless its something that doesnt intuitively make full sense like partial fraction decomposition. i read the book on that. pulling a B
japanese: havent paid attention, no notes / book. pulling a B but i already know the language
thats all my classes that i can think of
no wait
i have physics also
easy class, do nothing and pull a B+

^^ all class are ap/honors

I never do any class work, so what's the point of reading the text book? ...Oh yeah, learning... Haha. W/e.

I listen in class, do homework and classwork, and look over notes before test........

yea, I've read everything for both my APUSH and AP Bio class. My teacher's insane, every test we take are old questions from the AP tests so they're really specific, plus we have lots of writes and without reading you'd be screwed.

It does really depend on the class:
english- i read the books
apush- i flip through the textbook, skim and scan through the review book, and review all my notes
math- i hate the textbook, i only review the notes
physics- we don't have a textbook
computer science with c++ - i skim through the textbook
french- i love the textbook

i think that reading and reviewing the notes is the best way to study, while using the review books is helpful too.

i lost my ap gov textbook at the beginning of the year...so no i haven't opened the textbook since. oh well.

calc...that book has stayed in my locker since day 1.

so basically i have a stack that just sits there all the time...the only one i read is french b/c i have to. haha...so much for "learning"
