Polytechnic students from Singapore unite

Rs-ong: U will have to take SATII for a better shot. It's not that difficult.

I'm sure a lot of Poly students get admitted to US schools. One popular way is to enter a 2nd tier school, work hard and transfer to a 1st tier school.

like Michigan State --> U Michigan, U Maryland --> UIUC

naff, not to disagree entirely, but if the OP or anybody interested wants to take the transfer path, he/she needs to check that the school they hope to ultimately end up takes transfer students, and many of them at that.

Most of the time, it is not advisable to go to a 2nd tier with the straight-up intention of transferring out.

Anyway OP, SAT 2s are a good idea, and AP exams, which are like the A levels but easier and less comprehensive, would be good for you to take. The best thing to do is always to email the colleges and universities and explain your academic history and ask them what they recommend you to take for inclusion in your application. Requirements vary among these institutions.

I don't know if U Michigan or UIUC are exactly first tier schools...

But they are good schools to transfer to considering that he is a poly student, definitely way better than UNSW or USydney that poly students routinely attend.
