My son got in! Was pleasantly surprised as his stats were good, but not exceptional (GPA 4.36, ACT 33). He submitted an art/music supplement that helped round out his overall application. Kudus to admissions on seeing his whole person!

DD rejected. 3.9 GPA, 35 ACT, 2 varsity sports, captain of one, most difficult curriculum possible at an independent school OOS. Didn’t read her application for Pomona, so not sure how strong it was.

DD waitlisted. Anyone have any info about how big the waitlist is this year, other than what is on their website? Usually 8% of applicants put on waitlist according to Pomona website, so a big group.

Last year 866 were offered a spot on the waitlist, 614 accepted the waitlist spot, and 13 were admitted from the waitlist (2%)

The previous year 840 were offered a spot on the waitlist, 570 accepted the waitlist spot, and 27 were admitted from the waitlist (5%)

Did anyone else go to the Admitted Student Day this past week? Thoughts/impressions? We had a great visit, but my D hasn’t decided yet.

We were there. My kiddo also had a great visit. Loved the campus, the other students, the faculty they met. The facilities were impressive, but I think the other students made the biggest impression on my kiddo. They found it easy to connect with everyone they met, they were impressed by everyones attitude and passion about what they were doing. They found the student activities to be both wide ranging and accessible, which they really loved. They could see themselves trying a lot of new things there, and I think that is a big draw. Still undecided, but did buy a sweatshirt :). We are down to the final 2. Decision will be made by Friday. We are looking at 2 very different programs. Other option is a large school with an honors college and BFA program that is close to home. Pomona is 2000 miles away, and does not have a theater conservatory.

What did your kid decide? We were there for admitted students day and my kiddo loved it and committed. I think I second guessed all of the options more than they did through this entire process. It was hard not to get somehow emotionally tied to multiple options and weigh the pros and cons. The sense of community that my kid felt at Pomona made a big difference in their final decision.

Anyone got off the waitlist already?

Mine is going to Pomona too  . I cannot agree more about the community feeling! They connected with so many students and enjoyed conversations with professors. The sense of family was pervasive. That combined with the resources of the 5C’s meant Pomona just checked every box (except the distance). Where are you coming from?

We’re in Oregon. Pomona is closer than several of the other options they were considering. Where are you coming from?
