Does anyone know if Pomona college of Claremont consortium admits by major? Or by the overall application strength to the admission into the college?
what are the chances of Pomona accepting with no AP classes, but with dual enrollment classes?
Pomona does not admit by major but since they are looking actively for a very diverse mix of strong applicants, I believe an unusual interest, pursued with passion, may help a lot.
They offered admission to people from 58 countries this year so it tells you clearly that AP is not the only way to show rigor of your curriculum.
From the admissions office (supporting what @ArtsyKidDad said): “Typically, we have a profile of your school, which indicates what is available and how much choice you might have about your curriculum, but if you feel the need to explain any of your choices, feel welcome to do so. Applicants will not be disadvantaged if they don’t have access to or were limited in accessing a rigorous curriculum. Neither do we expect or require applicants to take every class at the highest level of rigor, but to challenge themselves where appropriate.” Anecdotal, but my Pomona kid explained that dropping out of IB was to pursue a pre-med passion and (obviously) got in.
