So I am sitting on the fence right now, and I was wondering if any of you had could give me some insight...

I like Dartmouth's flexible term plan and it's rugby program but I'm tempted by Pomona because I've been living in Toronto for most of my life and I am SICK of winter.

And I'd say I'm liberal and don't care where I am in terms of rural/suburban/urban...

Both are great colleges. Dartmouth I believe is trimesters(I may be wrong) which means more finals and midterm . I have heard there is not a lot to do in the surrounding area so drinking becomes a main activity, centered on campus. Pomona has its share of drinking don't get me wrong but there are a lot of other things (more variety)available.Spend a night in each place , attend a class or two and see what feels most like you . 2 great options!

hey, i got into dartmouth too and prospied there right after pomona. when i took the bus from boston to hanover, i decided to just take a nap bc the city lights would wake me up. well, the bus stops like 1.5 hours later, it's pitch black outside, and we're apparently in the middle of campus. don't get me wrong, claremont is definitely not the best college town, but dartmouth was just too isolated for me. also, i prospied near the end of april, and it was still really cold. the winters there are hellish. alcohol def. seemed more prominent there, too. and the greek scene at pomona is virtually nonexistent (although def. a huge influence at dartmouth). the thing i liked about their schedule is that you only take like 3 classes at a time. but also, you won't have the same breaks as your friends at other schools. there were also some pretty big differences in the student body, but i think you'll see what i'm talking about when you visit. who knows, you may fall in love w/ it and hate pomona. i ended up just rescheduling my flight and leaving 2 days early bc i knew i was gonna choose pomona instead, but you should still prospy everywhere you're seriously considering.

Dartmouth is WAY better. I've visited Pomona twice after living in Cali for ten years and it's not that great of a school. Talk to any Dartmouth student or alumn and they will rave about their school. Dartmouth is rural and isolated but thats part of what makes it so great and unique. It's like a summer camp for four years with parties all the time. Plus you're going to an ivy. Don't get any preconceptions about its isolated area - see it for yourself.

Pomona is as fine an undergraduate experience you could possibly have. It is also unique given it's connection to the other 4 Claremont Colleges.
You can chose to "isolate" yourself and stick to Pomona classes, events, etc. or be part of the larger Claremont college community (can take classes at the other schools, eat in all their dining halls, attend events, etc.)

Also, you can choose to "isolate" yourself in the rather small community of Claremont, but Los Angeles is about 45 minutes away and Pasadena about 25 minutes away and can find anything and everything the "big city" has to offer.

Also, Pomona is about 1/2 hour drive into the mountains if you're missing the snow and the countryside or about 45 minutes or so to the ocean. The school sponsors an event where you go both to the mountains and the beach in the same day.

Dartmouth is certainly an excellent school. IMO Pomona has a bit more to offer and presents far more options.
