^^^guys, guys… let’s put this whole thing into perspective; graduates/students/faculty of SLAC’s should be on the same side- that a top LAC education is in most cases stronger (and at least on a par) with the top undergraduate, university- based schools. To nit-pick about the loftiness/worthlessness of SWAP, Wesleyan, etc. is hair-splitting (although everyone is entitled to their own loyalties). Choose your battles.

Hey, I didn’t leave the thread! But the bantering back and forth IS amusing. I’m the dad…the son, my son, will have to decide for himself. He’s going to visit Swat this week (Thursday and Friday) and Pomona on the 24th and 25th. We visited Vassar over summer (no school in session) and I doubt he’ll be able to get there now…I tell you what…I’ll drop a thread when he decides…his sister went to Swat, that’s a little impetus…but…more later.

Thanks to you all,

Sounds like someone is engaging in ad hominem. Bottom line: Pomona is the better choice. Let’s not kid ourselves.

Pomona might have been the better choice for A.E.

It wouldn’t have been for me, or for either of my kids.

Between Swat and Pomona, neither school is “the obvious choice” for anybody, except maybe those who have a clear preference for east coast or west coast. They’re both top schools, and the choice should come down to where the applicant feels more comfortable.

^^correct, HarrietMWelsch. The tiny minority of Swat malcontents are nonetheless vociferous.

one tiny bit of totally biased and unsolicited advice about Pomona: if you think that by choosing a California LAC, you are leaving the (largely east coast) world of pecking orders, rankings and vociferous advocacy behind, you’d better think twice. The Claremont Colleges have their own internal feuds; some people would call them friendly rivalries, others might call them self-perpetuating stereotypes. If you start throwing around that SWAP acronym, you might just get your head handed to you. And, remember: there’s only one “S” in California (I’ll give you time to think about that one. Yeah, that’s right.) One Sssss. [as he slithers away.]

Tiny minority? Do you have a reliable statistic somewhere to show that this is the case?
