What are the most/more popular apartments that students stay in? And do most move there their sophomore or junior years? Basically, where do students typically stay during their sophomore, junior, and senior years?

There are several popular apartments, but it all depends on what kind of apartment you are looking for. A luxury apartment? 309 E. Green or Burnham 310. A relatively nice and quiet apartment close to campus? Gregory Place Apartments. A cheap apartment? Well, there are plenty of those, so you have to pick based on location - either in Champaign near the frats or another area, or in Urbana, which is typically quieter. Besides apartments, houses are always very popular. Most of the good two-bedroom apartments are leased in the fall before the lease begins, so look for apartments early.

What you should mostly be concerned about when looking for an apartment is where you want to live, who you want to live with (or if you want to live with anyone at all), how much you want to spend, and who your landlord is. The last one is particularly important. As a general rule that I’ve heard, stay away from CPM. I’ve heard good reviews about Roland Realty, JSM and a few others that I can’t recall right now. When you start to look for apartments, contact the tenant union ([Tenant Union :: University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign](http://www.tenantunion.uiuc.edu/)). They will provide you info about the landlords with the least complaints, go over your lease with you before you sign it, and help you with any landlord problems that you might have later.

I would say about half of students move out of the dorms sophomore year and about half stay, or at least that’s what I can gather from the people I’ve talked to. The majority of juniors live in apartments. I am a sophomore, and I recently just moved into my first apartment (I won’t say which one here). Some of my friends live in apartments, some live in dorms, and others live in their sororities or frats. I personally could not have lived in the dorms for another year. I like having my own kitchen, bathroom, and space (and airconditioning!), but it all depends on the person. Some really enjoy the dorms and like not having to worry about meals.

My friend lives in an apartment beside UIUC campus. It’s affordable and convenient. I like that place. Its on W. Clark St. The company is called Advantage Properties Champaign-Urbana Apartments. It’s quite competitive, you could take a look at it.
