hey...
i'm applying RD
93 UW avg...112 weighted...i know the 93 is about a 3.9 but i don't know what the weighted is.
class rank 4/380
i've taken the hardest courseload possible (8/9 aps offered)
10th grade: AP Calc BC
11th grade: AP US History, AP Eng. Lang, AP Physics C
12th grade: AP Psych, AP Chem, AP Eng. Lit, AP Gov't
also, UCONN spanish V (through high school)
took calc III at southern ct fall semester (independent of hs)

my school is a really good public school in Fairfield County (CT)
highest sat: 770 math 730 verbal 670 writing (only took new SAT once)
sat subjects: 790 math 2c 720 physics 710 spanish reading

most important award/honor = National Merit Semifinalist (i find out in Feb whether or not i'm a finalist...duh duh duh.)

decent ec's...always involved (but very little community service...i'm always so busy!)

my rec's should be good...

so...

i've applied to

Bowdoin
Colby
Williams
Connecticut
Colgate
Franklin & Marshall
Juniata

all RD.

Can you tell me what you think my chances are? I have until April.

I would say (if your essays are good)...

Bowdoin - match
Colby - match/safety
Williams - reach
Connecticut - match/safety
Colgate - match
Franklin & Marshall - safety
Juniata - safety

BTW, you really have a shot anywhere with your stats, but at LAC's it comes down to more than just stats, so work hard on your essays and good luck!

Have you checked out Dartmouth and Middlebury? They seem like they would fit in with your list..

youre a match everywhere but williams which is a big reach for anyone and bowdoin which is also reachy. definitely in at juniata and f&m. colby/conn/colgate have about the same selectivity, despite what you read on the usnews ranking.

yeah...i looked at dartmouth and middlebury...
but they weren't right.
dartmouth is too big
middlebury is really a language school (if i wanted to major in spanish...that would be my top choice)...i really want a school with a very strong science program.

NyLibertine, you would put Colgate above Colby as far as selectivity?

Did you know that Middlebury has more students majoring in the natural sciences than all foreign languages combined? In fact, 43% of Midd students major in the natural and social sciences. 9.3% major in foreign languages.

dsack, colby(~38% acceptance) is easier to get into than colgate(~30%) and conn (~32%) and obviously williams and bowdoin.

I have a hard time believing that those are useful statistics, especially when a school like University of Chicago has a higher acceptance rate than all three. Those statistics fail to take into account the types of students who apply. Also, those look a lot like early decision statistics.

93/100? isnt really equive to a 3.9/4

a 4.0 isn't a 100
it's a 95.

and a 3.5 is an 85.

3.0 is a 85. my 88 is a 3.3

sorry...i knew it wasn't exactly right.

but i'm sure that my 3.9 is 93ish.

I second arcadia. Just because a school has a strong program in one subject area doesn't mean it sucks in everything else. Middlebury has a very strong science program.
