You can both be right.
Mercifully, I guess the UCB portal astrology will come to end in the next few minutes? Thatās been a truly eye-opening thread. Best of luck to all CC applicants there.
ETA: Folks on the UCB admissions thread (decisions out now) and the portal astrology thread are swearing by portalism, FWIW.
UCB portal astrology came true (and was a real reach). Class of 2027, check your waitlist button a few days before.
So the cal theory was 100% accurate as far as I can tell from 2018-2022! I was super shocked that it was true for me and ever single person I know or heard from accepted waitlisted or denied. Yes the waitlist button theory is 100% true
As someone who spent an obscene amount of time on the Cal portal astrology - that was one example where there were very clear indicators and every part of the theory was proven eventually right. The basic difference this time around was the clear differential behavior of the same web widget, the actual email that was triggered containing the language ā if you have any questions about your admission to Berkeley" and the distribution of the various combinations that seemed to line up with likely admit, denial, and wait-list rates.
Also you had two different theories converge consistently- the admit reception registration and the withdraw link behavior.
Iām itching to see what Berkeley does next year in response.
Glad to know I am not alone in wasting time on these things! I have logged many hours into the Dartmouth and Brown FA docs (updated list of docs, not doc requests), and it is looking pretty promising (I hope). But, I will know if my research results were accurate predictors next Thursday!
If you look back to previous years, the Cal withdrawl button tell has not changed for years. Doubt it will change next year. Iād be curious if it works for upcoming transfer applicants but Iād be checking my withdrawal button in a couple weeks.
The withdraw button alone wonāt distinguish between admit and wait-list. Theyāve merged the corresponding messages into one generic response. You could of course figure out the rejection early.
do you mind expanding on the brown and dartmouth astrology?
The idea floated by several people is that, if you look in the FA portal (Banner SS in Brown) and see a list of several detailed documents (1040s, W2s, etc), especially if they have more recent download dates than the FAFSA/CSS, that is supposedly a good sign. When I was fretting and twiddling my thumbs last week, I looked through CC and reddit threads from previous years, and I found approx 8 cases for each school that support the āastrology.ā Full disclosure, there were about 5-7 total I couldnāt find a result for, but I did not find any cases that suggested a result other than admission or (in 1 case) waitlist.
Not much sense in reading the tea leaves on it now ā we will find out later today! Better time spent eating some delicious lamB, Jake Peralta!
Hang in there. No matter the decision today, in the words of Stuart Smalley, you are good enough, you are smart enough, and gosh darn it, people like you!
Thank you CheetahBee! My Brown portal did have an expanded list but I applied ED and was deferred so all of them were November dates. Dartmouth dates didnāt change Regardless, good luck to you too! Hope we (or your child) get into our dream schools!
FWIW, I did see an account of a deferred student w/ Fall dates who was accepted. Hope you and my daughter have the chance to meet in person!
Ahh thank you for this! Hope I can meet your daughter someday too! (P.S. Iām an American girl living in India)
Sheās a US/UK girl living here in the US. She also loves Brooklyn Nine Nine, hence the lamB joke! Hang in there!
Ahh another brooklyn nine nine fan! the nine nine community is tight-knit! we would have definitely been good friends!
Since Ivy Day has come and gone, is it fair to say that there was no āaccurateā portal astrology for these eight schools?
If you read back through my comments, I believe the list of updated FA docs was accurate (not related to getting an idoc request) as a positive indicator. It was true for mine and several others this year. I also looked through a few years of posts on CC and reddit, and found several more corroborations and nothing to contradict.
Letās assume I am lazy, which is an absolutely correct assumption. Would you care to mention here to which schools you refer?
The reason I ask is that I am astounded that portal astrology actually works in 2022. After seeing some graphic examples, it seems to me that it does.
I am just curious as to which schools in particular it might work.
I mentioned them upthread, but they are Dartmouth and Brown.
Like I said, Iām lazy! Thanks.
