Portals

Do admission decisions typically come via e mail or mail? Is it necessary to check the portals? My DD says it is not necessary but I am unsure. Thanks in advance!?

Short answer - it depends.

Often the college will post the decision on the portal but will send an email that the decisions are available (without saying what the decision is).

In terms of checking the portal in general, it may be useful to ensure that they have received all required materials. But again, it’s college-specific.

Thanks, my daughter swears up and down that everything has been received. The GC also confirmed this.

If she is going to get an e mail beforehand then I guess she is right that we do not need to check the portals beforehand. I don’t want to push it and stress her out for no reason.

DD also got emails telling her to check her portal prior to decisions being released. That said, I think she checked her portals weekly just to be sure nothing new was posted. I believe there was one school that released essay prompts for honors college on the portal without an email but honestly I can’t remember.

She may/she may not. Again, each college does its own thing. But unless the college is rolling admissions, they’ll not release decisions before the announced date (although the announced date may change and be announced on the portal/FB/twitter/email). So in that respect, no, there is not reason to check the portal before that date.
